Hi all! I'm posting this again, hoping maybe second time's the charm? Any suggestions are appreciated!
The book I'm remembering is fiction, I remember mainly that the princess got herself into some deep trouble (possibly political? Possibly by siding with rebels who hated the royal family?). Her father was insane or senile and spent all his time building card houses, and I think there was a corrupt advisor or regent of some kind... There are spoilers ahead...
Her father ended up having to give up his life to get her out of the trouble she was in. He jumped from the ladder where he was standing to build the top of the card house. I think the mother had already died or was somehow out of the picture.
I read it about 10 years ago, and I think it was a new book then. So it's probably from 2012 or so? I think it was J or YA. Read it in English in the US. It was a basic looking Juv fairy tale novel, set in a typical fairy tale kingdom. Help would be much appreciated!
