I came across Candlewick Press's 2009 edition of Treasure Island at a sale yesterday ($5) and only resisted purchasing it because I love my current heirloom copy. It was large, about 13"x9", with a firm binding and and lovely full-color illustrations on almost every page. Looking around online, I can't find any other classic books that they've done. Anyone have a recommendation? Thanks!

The Candlewick Press 2009 Treasure Island is indeed a very nice book profusely illustrated by the great John Lawrence. However, it is not fine press by any stretch of the imagination. Lawrence has, however, illustrated for many fine presses: Barbarian, Old Stile, and LEC come to mind. Those books contain illustrations printed directly from the blocks. Lawrence also illustrated many books for Folio Society.

>2 kronnevik: Hm. Can’t think of any LEC illustrated by the said gentleman.

>3 BuzzBuzzard: I think I was incorrect about that. Your word choice reminds me I was probably thinking of David Gentleman (LEC Swiss Family Robinson, etc.). The two have somewhat similar engraving styles.
