cataloging with the smartphone app

Hi there; I was wondering if we have a few people involved in Cataloging our books to start using LibraryThing, if each of us can install the LibraryThing app on your phones and somehow make them all (each smarthone, e.g. iPhone) submit to our central LibraryThing account. Please let me know. Thanks

Just to make sure I'm understanding, you are asking if multiple phones with the LT app can be logged into a single account? I have done this with my iPhone and iPad.

You can share an account, though if you're an institution and have any sort of security concerns tinycat may be better than a librarything account. Depends on your situation.

>3 bokai: That doesn't really help, because the cataloging part always happens on LibraryThing's end: TinyCat is for sharing the library with the public, and tracking circulation and patron data.

>1 billwrw: To answer your question in short, yes! You can have multiple people logged into your LibraryThing account through the LT App (downloaded on their own device), all cataloging to your account. The nice thing about that is they can all be cataloging to different collections without overwriting each other's work, because the app is session-based and not user-based. A couple of important tips:

1. Make sure that anyone cataloging to your account from the website itself, https://www.librarything.com/addbooks, is using that solo. The website is user-based and not session-based, so if you have two people using the "Add books" page at the same time you'll see issues.
2. Make sure that no one is editing the same record at the same time, if you plan on editing the records as you're cataloging them. The book-edit function within the LT App technically happens on the website-side, which means it's user-based and not session-based.

Hope this helps, happy cataloging!
