The last weekend thread I can see was for 29th April, so I am kicking off this weekend's thread.

Before reporting this weekend I am going to catch you all up on the past few weekends, because I have enjoyed them.

Weekend 6th - 8th May
Saturday, 7th May - Disassembld our 30 year old garden shed.
Sunday, 8th May - Assembled much smaller garden storage unit.
The shed replacement was an effort to give us more space and remove space for us to store junk. We now have a load of stuff for the dump.

Weekend 13th - 15th May
Saturday, 14th - Went to Maynooth to visit our son's fiancée's art exhibition. Bought two of her pieces.
We also had lunch with my son, his fiancée, his brother (our other son for those who are too tired to work out the connection), and three of my wife's siblings. We then went for a short walk in the beautiful sunshine, and ended the say with an icecream.

Weekend 20th - 22nd May
Saturday, 21st - Went to Greystones in County Wicklow to meet up with my cousins and one of my god-daughters. This one is also a cousin, but the daughter of a cousin, which I believe is a first cousin once removed.

This was a fabulous visit. My god-daughter and her husband's new house is on the sea-front with a balcony view over the Irish Sea. Their four-year-old daughter is called Riley. She is just a few months younger than our granddaughter in the US. They are very alike. I wonder if they will ever meet.

Weekend 27th - 29th May
Friday, 27th - We were due to celebrate our youngest's 25th birthday in March, but we caught Covid and had to postpone. Last night we had the delayed celebration. We went to Captain America's on Grafton Street in Dublin. There were five of us, our two son's and our older son's fiancée, the artist.

Captain America's is worth mention. It is a popular restaurant in Dublin and has been there since 1971. My wife and I used to go there occasionally when we were courting in the early 1980s. It has no connection to the comic-book franchise. Apparently there was legal action taken by the comic-book franchise at some stage, but the independent restaurant won the case due to some subtle difference in the way it presented the restaurant that differentiated it from the comic-book Captain America.

It is quite an iconic restaurant in Dublin and the walls are covered in memorabilia of singers and performers, many of who have dined there. The booth we were in had a picture of Tom Waites, and autographed photograph of Morrison, pictures of the Beatles (who were no longer together when the restaurant opened so did not eat there), a drumstick from the drummer of Queen with a letter from him authenticating the drumstick, a picture of The Sex Pistols, and a picture of Phil Lynott who would have most definitely dined there.

Saturday, 28th May - I spent most of the day working on the disassembled parts of the 30 year old shed that I took apart on the 7th. Basically taking them apart down to the level of planks and nails.

Today was quite the day for celebration. Our eldest grandchild was six. A neice of mine living in New Zealand/Aotearoa had her wedding anniversary today. Also, my wife and I celebrated our 39th wedding anniversary.

The past few weekends have been interesting and fun. I hope yours have been too.

Sounds like you've been having a time!

Weekends don't mean all that much these days...retirement. But yesterday I got the kayak in the water with a friend and puttered around for a few hours.

Today I went into the woods and fooled around with the camera until it started raining hard. Still working on the shots.

Tomorrow am leaving for South Dakota for a photography workshop. Long before gas was about $5 a gallon, I decided to make it a road trip. It will be more painful now, but I'm still looking forward to it. It will be the longest roadtrip I do alone apart from driving that stupid moving truck out here from NH, lol.

Since Easter I've been up to my eyeballs preparing the first draft of our main statutory return plus doing some project work and doing software testing. So my weekends have been spent relaxing and reading.

I now have 3 days off next week which with the Jubilee weekend gives me the full week off. Next Friday, the handyman is coming to do some outside work - I will get the raised beds properly installed. Before he comes I must finish the clearance - last weekend we cleared the worst of the weeds (last year's veg aka pigeon food, ground elder and ivy) and shifted the composters. As part of the work, he'll be laying some old slabs behind the smaller new shed, although we'll have to wait until the following weekend to shift them back (in order to let the cement cure). Hopefully he'll be able to install the guttering around the new sheds.

I have to drive to Corby on Monday to take Paul's Mum to the doctor and out to the supermarket. Then I have 3 days gardening planned, along with tomorrow afternoon.

Let's see. My weekend...

Begin cleaning out my father's house. (We spent an hour and a half today alone, cleaning out his pick up truck.)
Sign paperwork to become executor of my father's estate.
Funeral for my father on Tuesday.

>4 gilroy: My condolences. Settling an estate is a difficult job, especially if your father saved everything (like dried out paint cans like mine did). Wishing you peace.

>4 gilroy: I am sorry for your loss. My husband is struggling to get his parent's estate settled as well. One step forward, three steps back is what it feels like sometimes. May your experience be smoother.

I have a three day weekend, but haven't planned anything. I want to be available to my son and his wife for babysitting as they move into their new house. They are both calm and phlegmatic personalities, and so we spend a lot of time backing up and staying out of their way. :) It is joy to have my grandson in town. Mark and I went to the Farmer's Market this morning, then made banana pancakes to take over for their breakfast and take baby boy for a stro in his new neighborhood.

>4 gilroy: So sorry for your loss. My father died in January, and we had the interment of his ashes on May 18th.

For that, NorthernStar and I (and my husband) went to Nova Scotia, and were there over last weekend. We ate a lot of seafood, ran a race (10K for me and NorthernStar and 1/2 Marathon for my husband), did a pile of sorting out and fixing things for our stepmother, and came home on Tuesday.

As for this weekend:
Friday: a dentist appointment followed by lunch with friends - had a lovely visit and tasty food.
Saturday: another 10K race, then the horticultural society's perennial exchange, then sitting around reading.
Sunday: I will be going over to the home of friends to consult on repairs to their garden. In November the police were called to get a possibly-armed intruder out of their basement. In the process, the police sawed down the back fence and some trees and drove an armoured SUV in to batter down the basement door (despite having been given the key!). The vehicle drove over a tree stump and ripped out its undercarriage, dumping transmission fluid and stuff on the garden, and then needed to be towed out. The guy in the basement turned out not to have a gun - it was "just" mental illness and substance abuse issues. The contaminated soil needs to be removed, a new fence built, and a lot of plants replaced, so they're taking the opportunity to have a re-think of how the yard is organized. So we will have a lovely time talking garden possibilities.

>4 gilroy: My condolences. :o(

I was cleaning like a fiend last week, while also trying to plant some herbs, and get flowers in pots, etc. On Saturday my nephew and his wife and their three kids were visiting from Boston, so we spent a few hours at the beach here. Then they headed to my sister's place, and we all met there the next day for a BBQ. There was another smaller BBQ at my brother's yesterday. I am still tired, and it was too hot (91° F) for me to work outside much today, but thankfully a front came through so I can get back to gardening for a couple of days before my kids arrive next weekend.

I spent the weekend on the Oregon coast. It was stormy the first night. Gale force winds. The ocean was so fun to watch! Because it was stormy, I read quite a bit. We were able to get out and explore some on Sunday. Came home on Monday. It was a much needed getaway after a very emotionally draining week.

Drove to South Dakota from Wisconsin on Sunday. Stayed overnight in Sioux Falls, am now in Wall and going to do some sunrise shooting in Badlands National Park. It's about 30 degrees F so I'm glad I brought a hat, gloves and my down coat! Pics coming later. Maybe after an afternoon nap.

Thank you everyone.

Funeral went very well. But the interment was HOT because it was a rather new cemetery and so no trees for shade.
Leftovers are overwhelming my refrigerator. LOL
