I remember reading this about 10 years ago I believe.
It starts with a girl in high school that gets in trouble with her parents. They make her go and help out at a new center for kids with special needs that is being built. She paints and has a conversation about favorite Bible verses with a special needs boy who I think is named Thomas. Thomas's parents are the ones behind building the center. Later she meets Thomas's brother and ends up having a crush on him.
The brother is in a band and invites the girl to watch him play that night. When she gets there she finds out he has a girlfriend.
The girl ends up going to college and getting another boyfriend herself. Her boyfriend kills himself at some point I believe.
She ends up becoming a teacher and at some point reconnects with the center for special needs. She goes once a week to do science experiments for the kids, including one with mentor and Coke.
She runs into her crush again, whose girlfriend died in some way.
She ends up going to a carnival for her crushes church, and shortly after starts dating the crush.
