It's been an active month so far.

Bought in a bookstore:
* A Man with a Rake by Ted Kooser (my favorite modern poet)
* A Thousand May Fall: An Immigrant Regiment's Civil War by Brian Matthew Jordan
* Riders in the Storm: The Triumphs and Tragedies of a Black Cavalry Regiment in the Civil War by John D. Warner Jr.

Bought online but NOT through Amazon:
* The Librarian Spy: A Novel of World War II by Madeline Martin (this one's a preorder; I really enjoyed The Last Bookshop in London)
* Red Stilts by Ted Kooser (see above)
* The Case of the Married Woman: Caroline Norton and Her Fight for Women's Justice by Antonia Fraser (early-ish 19th century British divorce/custody case)

UPDATE: Acck! It's a good thing I'm using a gift card with a finite dollar amount on it. I just bought another book I've wanted for years: The Blitz: The British Under Attack by Juliet Gardiner.

Between tax refunds and another small influx of cash, I've gone a bit mad this month. Now that I'll be going back to regular income levels, my spending needs to change, too. But here's what I've done:

I've brought home 3 ARCs:
* Bloomsbury Girls by Natalie Jenner (pub 5/22; historical fiction -- resisted this one for a while)
* Lapvona by Ottessa Moshfegh (pub 6/22; historical fiction)
* Dark Objects by Simon Toyne (pub 7/22; contemporary thriller)

I was looking up D.E. Stevenson (have several of her books which were reissued with fun vintage-y covers by Sourcebooks) and discovered "Dean Street Press" and "Furrowed Middlebrow" who have also reissued some of her books as print-on-demand. Ordered one Sourcebooks title (Listening Valley) to the store and prepaid for 6 titles which just arrived:
* Bewildering Cares by Winifred Peck (I've read her before)
* Business as Usual by Jane Oliver
* Company in the Evening by Ursula Orange
* The Fair Miss Fortune by D.E. Stevenson
* One By One They Disappeared by Moray Dalton
* Spam Tomorrow by Verily Anderson

And now that those 6 have arrived, I bought/ordered 5 more:
* Table Two by Marjorie Wilenski
* Chelsea Concerto by Frances Faviell
* There May Be Danger by Ianthe Jerrold
and
* Nothing to Report and Somewhere in England by Carola Oman

Just did a bit of research, and I think I own a couple of Carola Oman's father's books, too. I believe her father may be the Napoleonic War historian Charles Oman.

>4 Yuki-Onna: Yeah, I know. But you have to remember I work at a bookstore so I get an AMAZING discount. And I suffer from...enthusiasms.

Anybody else want to step up and confess?

Dear, you are so right! I don't judge book shopping sprees.
I love supporting the book industry. Books are among the best things to spend your money on... People who spend their money on tons of clothes don't feel embarassed as we book lovers do, do they? ;) Why should we?
-Ohhh, enthusiasms... 😂 That's me, too! Minus the amazing discounts... 🙄

Purchased Listening Valley (see above) on Friday, and since I was spending money anyway...

Bought African Founders: How Enslaved People Expanded American Ideals by David Hackett Fischer, based on the cover and the fact that he wrote an amazing book about American colonists from the British Isles (Albion's Seed). Told my friend Ellen (who also read Albion's Seed) and she added the book to her list, too.
