By mixing the title and author, I can get a Touchstone for this: Seventeen Booth Tarkington. It's still in print, and available in an Amazon Kindle edition. I thought I saw this all over Indianapolis when I lived there, but never did read this.

I own Dear Enemy -- I still like it and reread it from time to time. I was surprised to see the H.G Wells -- it's one I've never heard of.

Booth Tarkington is another popular author, once in the canon, now faded away. Fitzgerald was a great fan.

The Magnificent Ambersons was popular and was turned into a movie.

When A Man's A Man -- a provocative title.

I'm sorry, but I thought Just David by Eleanor H. Porter was so dreadful, so unbelievable. It was reissued not too many years ago, and I was given a copy as a gift, sigh.

My mother was a fan of Jean Webster so I was given both Daddy Long Legs and Dear Enemy: I didn't really enjoy either of them.

Dear Enemy is wonderful classic children's book. The characters are fun. The pace is fast. Running an orphanage is an interesting subject. I love having the author's sketches illustrate the letters. I took off a half of a star for the creepy eugenics.

The Real Adventure is up to 7 copies among LT people, and Dear Enemy now has 396. So there is quite a bit of growth going on. When Varielle and I were preparing these initial lists of bestsellers some 5 years ago, a lot of books had not been properly "combined" in LT. "Dear Enemy" is now available as a free Kindle Book, as well as a number of other books on this list (or a small charge).
