What do you do with extra copies of illustrations?

It is not that uncommon for fine books to come with a separate portfolio containing extra prints of the engravings or other illustrations from the book. I am curious what everyone does with them? Do you just keep them with the books they belong to or do you have some on display somewhere?

Mine are all in the portfolios along with their book since I feel somehow reluctant to separate the two. But this seems like a bit of a shame because the extra prints are completely redundant so long as they are right next to the copy in the book.

Same for me. I don't have much wall space to have them framed on display since they're mostly occupied with bookshelves. While I don't have many sets that contain a separate portfolio I've found that in all cases my primary drive to buy them was for the better binding of the book itself rather than for the additional prints. I also very rarely take them out, preferring the book instead, and just find handling a loose wad of paper a bit fiddly. As you say I find it a shame how my portfolios are also made redundant.

My copy of Nawakum Press’ Cascadia was accompanied by a portfolio of prints I plan to have framed (eventually). I would consider doing the same for other portfolios of prints and broadsides in my library, but those will have to wait until I move into a place with more wall space.

I have a couple of prints framed — one from the Chester River Press Heart of Darkness and the other from the Folio Society's Madame Bovary.

I have some displayed on bookshelves but many of them get rotated onto a 100-year-old tea cart I got from my beloved Nana. It has a glass top/serving tray that is perfect for protecting and displaying prints and ephemera. I'll try to remember to add a photo here when I get home from my trip but you can also see in often on my tea company's social media, leavesofcha. The social media is almost as bookish as it is teaish, ha ha. As with most people, wall space for more art is at a premium.

Right now I believe there is some Salvage Press, Larkspur Press, Thornwillow Press, and others on it...

>5 jveezer: that's a fantastic idea. I just saw it on your IG account. Looks great!

I'm going to have to get one for my office. Thanks for sharing the idea.
