Committee & DOJ Get Secret Videos Linking Proud Boys, Others to Jan. 6th Rally Organizers

New videos taken by a Goldcrest Films crew that followed Proud Boys leaders and Oath Keepers before the Capitol reveal cooperation between the two groups. An unnamed source says the J6 Committee has been "locked in" on them. The source also said the "First Amendment Praetorian, which is also known as '1AP,' is a 'major part' of the House investigation."
. . .the committee has obtained footage of Proud Boys leaders — including four minutes that may contain audio of a key meeting — and testimony linking the right-wing group First Amendment Praetorian to the organizers of the Jan. 6, 2021, rally on the White House Ellipse, where Trump urged the crowd to “fight like hell” as his defeat was being certified at the Capitol.
(SNIP)
First Amendment Praetorian has been identified. . .as a far-right “paramilitary group.”
(SNIP)
A LinkedIn page that appears to belong to Robert Patrick Lewis, the group’s chairman, describes First Amendment Praetorian as a group that is “dedicated to providing intelligence and security services to grassroots events in order to ensure Americans may express their 1st Amendment-protected rights to freedom of speech, religion, assembly and political affiliation.”
Lewis has already given testimony to the Select Committee and the DOJ has ongoing conspiracy cases against the two leaders of the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers, Enrique Tarrio and Stewart Rhodes.
(A) third source, who has seen the footage, said it largely features the Proud Boys and that Rhodes is only present during a meeting he had with Tarrio in a parking garage near the Capitol on Jan. 5. According to the third source, Oath Keepers general counsel Kellye SoRelle, Latinos for Trump President Bianca Gracia, and Vets for Trump co-founder Josh Macias also participated in the meeting. They further said the footage obtained by the committee includes approximately “four minutes” of B-roll that may contain audio of the parking-garage meeting.
(SNIP)
Prosecutors alleged Tarrio met with Rhodes and other unnamed individuals in an underground garage near the Phoenix Park Hotel, which is located roughly a half mile from the Capitol.

“During this encounter, a participant referenced the Capitol,” according to the indictment.
The Rolling Stone article is a lengthy exclusive with details about the paramilitary group, 1AP.

Inside Ted Cruz’s last-ditch battle to keep Trump in power

.....An examination by The Washington Post of Cruz’s actions between Election Day and Jan. 6, 2021, shows just how deeply he was involved, working directly with Trump to concoct a plan that came closer than widely realized to keeping him in power. As Cruz went to extraordinary lengths to court Trump’s base and lay the groundwork for his own potential 2024 presidential bid, he also alienated close allies and longtime friends who accused him of abandoning his principles.

Now, Cruz’s efforts are of interest to the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, in particular whether Cruz was in contact with Trump lawyer John Eastman, a conservative attorney who has been his friend for decades and who wrote key legal memos aimed at denying Biden’s victory.....

Trump likely committed felony obstruction, federal judge rules
Kyle Cheney, Nicholas Wu and Josh Gerstein | 03/28/2022

...U.S. District Court Judge David Carter made the determination in a ruling that orders 101 sensitive emails from Trump ally John Eastman be turned over to the House’s Jan. 6 select committee.

“Based on the evidence, the Court finds it more likely than not that President Trump corruptly attempted to obstruct the Joint Session of Congress on January 6, 2021,” Carter wrote.

The Media Has Yet to Grasp the Full Enormity of Ginni Thomas’s Text Messages
Reports have latched on to the lurid, QAnon-inflected scandal on the surface, but they’ve yet to plumb the depths of the corruption at its heart.
Alex Shephard/March 25, 2022

...This is, ultimately, a story about corruption. Clarence Thomas never disclosed that his wife was sending dozens of texts to Meadows. He certainly did not disclose that his wife harbored deranged QAnon-ish beliefs that she’d been sharing with the White House’s chief-of-staff. Perhaps he didn’t know specific details about what his wife has been discussing with Trump’s inner circle. But he almost assuredly understood her affinity for Trump—and her participation in promulgating baseless conspiracy theories about a stolen election: Earlier this month she admitted that she had attended Trump’s “Stop the Steal” rally. (She stated that she left early, before things took their violent turn.)

...Early defenses of Justice Thomas from the right have hinged on that veneer of deniability: That whatever else you might suspect, Clarence Thomas did nothing wrong...

But the story won’t disappear anytime soon. The January 6 Commission is still hard at work and more documents will undoubtedly come out in the coming weeks and months...

"A Coup in Search of a Legal Theory"

The DOJ will have a hard time ignoring the opinion of the California District Court's ruling that Trump and his lawyer, John Eastman, "more likely than not," committed crimes in attempting to overturn the election and spur the violent overthrow of the legitimately elected government on Jan. 6, 2021. In the ruling the following points emerge:
1) INTENT: Carter says that Trump likely knew his efforts to overturn the election were not legitimate and that his claims of voter fraud were nonsense.

2) KNOWLEDGE OF COMMITTING A CRIME: Carter says lawyer Eastman almost certainly knew what he was proposing was illegal -- and he uses Eastman's own notes to prove it.

3) CONFIRMING LEGAL OPINION OF THE CRIME AFOREHAND: Carter finds Eastman was consistently advised that his plan was illegal, but he tried to enact it anyway.

4) COMMITMENT TO CRIMINAL ACTION: Carter concludes that Trump and Eastman simply wanted to conduct a coup -- the facts and the law be damned.

5) CONCLUSION:
"Dr. Eastman and President Trump launched a campaign to overturn a democratic election, an action unprecedented in American history.

"Their campaign was not confined to the ivory tower—it was a coup in search of a legal theory. The plan spurred violent attacks on the seat of our nation’s government, led to the deaths of several law enforcement officers, and deepened public distrust in our political process.
"
In sum, Judge Carter said that the Department of Justice must enforce accountability among the guilty parties. Trump, Eastman, Meadows and others attempted to obstruct justice; to overthrow the government; and commit fraud on the American people. Carter's 44 page opinion is no doubt circling under the nose of Merrick Garland as I type. He had better not ignore it since it lays out the case of "conspiracy to defraud the United States by disrupting the electoral count, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 371.
Every American—and certainly the President of the United States—knows that in a democracy, leaders are elected, not installed. With a plan this “BOLD,”241 President Trump knowingly tried to subvert this fundamental principle.
As Rep. Adam Schiff said tonight during the J6 Committee vote to issue criminal contempt citations against Scavino and Navarro for ignoring its subpoenas, what good is our democracy if we do not enforce the powers of the branches of government?

Whether the crime is contempt of Congress by ignoring a legal summons, or it is contempt for the election by breaking the law protecting its sanctity, the job of the DOJ and the duty of the USAG is to prosecute these crimes.

JUST IN: Nearly 8-Hour Gap in White House Phone Logs Raises Questions of Whether Trump Used ‘Burner Phones’
By Colby HallMar 29th, 2022, 7:39 am

The Washington Post and CBS News are reporting that there is gap of nearly 8 hours in White House phone logs and former President Donald Trump’s presidential diary on January 6th — raising questions of possible cover-up for any role the former president may have had in the attack on the Capitol and his possible use of disposable burner phones.

Bob Woodward and Robert Costa obtained 11 pages of logs from that day, the report of which notes a “lack of an official White House notation of any calls placed to or by Trump for 457 minutes on Jan. 6, 2021 – from 11:17 a.m. to 6:54 p.m.” The House Select Committee investigating the events of January 6th have no record of Trump’s phone conversations while the Capitol was under siege.

This brings to mind the 18-minute gap on the Nixon tapes that Rose Mary Woods insisted she caused by mistake! Apparently, Trump used a similar modern-day method on 1-6. Trump and I were in our late twenties in the mid-seventies.

New Focus on How a Trump Tweet Incited Far-Right Groups Ahead of Jan. 6
Alan Feuer, Michael S. Schmidt and Luke Broadwater | March 29, 2022

...Mr. Trump’s Twitter post in the early hours of Dec. 19, 2020, was the first time he publicly urged supporters to come to Washington on the day Congress was scheduled to certify the Electoral College results showing Joseph R. Biden Jr. as the winner of the presidential vote. His message — which concluded with, “Be there, will be wild!” — has long been seen as instrumental in drawing the crowds that attended a pro-Trump rally on the Ellipse on Jan. 6 and then marched to the Capitol.

But the Justice Department’s criminal investigation of the riot and the parallel inquiry by the House select committee have increasingly shown how Mr. Trump’s post was a powerful catalyst, particularly for far-right militants who believed he was facing his final chance to reverse defeat and whose role in fomenting the violence has come under intense scrutiny.

Extremist groups almost immediately celebrated Mr. Trump’s Twitter message, which they widely interpreted as an invitation to descend on the city in force. Responding to the president’s words, the groups sprang into action, court filings and interviews by the House committee show: Extremists began to set up encrypted communications channels, acquire protective gear and, in one case, prepare heavily armed “quick reaction forces” to be staged outside Washington...

Inside Pence-world's preparation for a Jan. 6 legal showdown
Betsy Woodruff Swan and Kyle Cheney | 03/30/2022 0

As forces loyal to Donald Trump began calling on Mike Pence to single-handedly stop Joe Biden from becoming president, the then-vice president dashed off a request in late 2020 to his top lawyer: Just how much power did he actually have over certifying electoral votes?

His counsel, Greg Jacob, replied the next day with a four-page legal memo that marked Pence’s first crash course in an arcane legal issue with historic consequences...

NEWS: A month before Jan. 6, Mike Pence asked his top lawyer for an analysis of his role in counting electoral votes.
We obtained, and are publishing for 1st time, the text of the memo Greg JACOB produced the next day, Dec. 8, 2020.

The four-page memo was the beginning of Pence’s preparation for the Jan. 6 session of Congress, the underpinnings of what would become his resistance to the Trump-Eastman pressure campaign.

And it set the stage for the month-long sprint to Jan. 6.

The Jan. 6 committee has this memo, as well as the Jan. 5 memo Jacob wrote firmly and finally rejecting the call for Pence to overturn the election.

A source familiar with the drafting of the memo described it as an “overnight” attempt to arm Pence with as much info as possible.

More impt than Jacob’s first memo to Pence is his last one dated Jan. 5. The 1/6 committee has described it in court filings but it remains hidden. It shows that Eastman had hoped the courts would refuse to hear a challenge to Pence’s authority.

This possibility has been underappreciated. Eastman may not have believed his plans would pass legal muster, but he thought there was a chance the courts would willingly stay out of it, declaring it a “political” question for the other branches to resolve.

Steve Bannon: No Catbird Seat When It's Placed on a Trap Door

We all know that Steve Bannon shot a figurative bird at the House Select Committee's subpoena, citing the shaky grounds that he's protected from testifying about his activities, conspiracy, and advocacy supporting the overthrow of the legitimately elected president from planning, to insurgency, to promoting the Big Lie. Even his lawyer may be in trouble for advising him to ignore the subpoena, which is illegal to do.

Consider, since both family members and advisors to Donald Trump have testified before the J6 Committee (remotely) for a combined 14 hours spent answering its questions, it will be awkward for Bannon's defense seeing that neither Jarrod nor Ivanka, claimed executive privilege protected them from complying with their subpoenas and giving their statements. What kind of special is Bannon compared to Trump's own daughter and son-in law?

Not very, I'm thinking. More likely, it's Bannon's criminal guilt that is behind his refusal to cooperate. Peter Navarro's too.

Oath Keepers and Proud Boys in the Crosshairs; Smoking Gun in Trump's Hand

Big week and good news for the J6 Committee. Bad news for DJT. Looks like direct evidence is establishing that Trump did oversee a criminal conspiracy to overthrow the election.
The House select committee investigating January 6 appears to believe the Capitol attack included a coordinated assault perpetrated by the Oath Keepers and the Proud Boys militia groups that sought to physically stop the certification of Joe Biden’s election victory.

(The theory) crystallized this week after obtaining evidence of the coordination in testimony and non-public video, according to two sources familiar with the matter.
(SNIP)
And the select committee has also now heard testimony from award-winning documentary film-maker Nick Quested on Wednesday about contacts between the militia group leaders, far-right political operatives and the Save America rally organizers, the sources said.
(SNIP)
. . .it could form part of the evidence to connect the militia groups that stormed the Capitol on 6 January to the organizers of the Save America rally that immediately preceded the attack – who in turn are. . .being linked to the Trump White House.

Are These the Beans Ivanka Spilled?

Was this the first action taken by the Trump Crime Family that set off the Insurrection and attempt to steal the 2020 election from the voters? Did Ivanka have documents to back up her verbal testimony? The timing sure fits.

Ivanka brother, Donald Trump Jr., texted WH former Chief-of-Staff Mark Meadows ideas for overturning 2020 election two days after the election while votes were still being counted. J6 Committee obtains emails laying out a plan for his father to stay in office despite losing the 2020 election.
The November 5 text message outlines a strategy that is nearly identical to what allies of the former President attempted to carry out in the months that followed. Trump Jr. makes specific reference to filing lawsuits and advocating recounts to prevent certain swing states from certifying their results, as well as having a handful of Republican state houses put forward slates of fake "Trump electors."

If all that failed, according to the Trump Jr. text, GOP lawmakers in Congress could simply vote to reinstall Trump as President on January 6.
"We have operational control Total leverage," the message reads. "Moral High Ground POTUS must start 2nd term now."
(SNIP)
It shows how those closest to the former President were already exchanging ideas for how to overturn the election months before the January 6 insurrection. . .
THe J6 Committee's informal color-named subcommittees are each taking on separate aspects of the investigation. They appear to be working very well as parts of larger whole, as the entire panel gets closer and closer to closing its case against Donald Trump.

"Six Most Chilling Words"

When the House Select Committee opens its hearings to the public in JuneJ6 Committee member, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), promised, "The hearings will tell a story that will really blow the roof off the House."
"No president has ever come close to doing what happened here in terms of trying to organize an inside coup to overthrow an election and bypass the constitutional order," he said. "And then also use a violent insurrection made up of domestic violent extremist groups, white nationalist and racist, fascist groups in order to support the coup."
Summing up the main point the investigation has determines so far in its investigation, Raskin said, "This was not a coup directed at the president. . ."It was a coup directed by the president against the vice president and against the Congress." He painted a picture of increasing resistance of witnesses to testify, the nearer the investigators approached those in Trump's "First Circle."

Then Raskin dropped the BOMBSHELL.
The plan was coordinated "most tightly by Trump and his inner circle.

Speaking about the threats to Pence on Jan. 6 and the chants by rioters to hang him, Raskin said the vice president's Secret Service agents — including one who was carrying the nuclear football — ran down to an undisclosed place in the Capitol. Those agents, who Raskin said he suspects were reporting to Trump’s Secret Service agents, were trying to whisk Pence away from the Capitol.
Then Ruskin played the trump (pun intended) card, saying. . .
Pence then "uttered what I think are the six most chilling words of this entire thing I've seen so far: 'I'm not getting in that car.'

"He knew exactly what this inside coup they had planned for was going to do."

Meadows Was Warned Jan. 6 Could Turn Violent, House Panel Says

I have repeatedly written in my published work that Donald Trump has a decades-long history of sharing lawyers with anyone he has committed crimes with to ensure that they do not hurt him. A key moment today was when a Greene lawyer suddenly stood up and said he represents Trump.

This lawyer was so scared of the possibility Greene would reveal things Trump had said in the days leading up to an insurrection he incited that he tried to claim executive privilege on Trump’s behalf against Greene—who has no such privilege as a member of the legislative branch.

Judge Tim Kelly — a Trump appointee — ruled that the committee’s effort to obtain the RNC’s info was reasonable (and narrowly tailored) in light of evidence that the party stoked claims about a stolen election and joined the Trump campaign to spread that message to supporters.

IMPORTANT: Judge Kelly also swept aside a series of legal arguments against the Jan. 6 committee. He ruled:

-Liz Cheney can be considered the ranking member
-The RNC subpoena has a “valid legislative purpose.”

This is a landmark ruling that could weigh heavily on dozens of other lawsuits the Jan. 6 committee is fighting against potential witnesses. RNC may appeal but Kelly becomes a particularly important voice of support for the select committee’s mission and tactics.

"Doc" Ronny Jackson Won't Cooperate with J6 Committee

Somebody's lying. R-TX congressman, Doc Ronny, swears he doesn't know any of the Oath Keepers. But they know him. New York Times congressional reporter Luke Broadwater said, "somebody's not telling the truth here."
". . .according to their (Oath Keepers) own encrypted messages," said Broadwater. "One of them appears to have his cell phone number because Stewart Rhodes, the leader of the Oath Keepers, asks the person to pass on his information to Rep. Jackson so that he would be in contact with them. They seem to know that he's moving around in the Capitol and that he needs protection and that he has data that they want preserved."
That data and other things are what the J6 Committee wants to ask Doc Ronny about, but he won't answer their questions, "I will not participate in the illegitimate Committee’s ruthless crusade against President Trump and his allies,” his statement said.

Could it be because the questions focus on his part in the seditious conspiracy?
"Why would these individuals have an interest in your specific location? Why would they believe you 'have critical data to protect?' Why would they direct their members to protect your personal safety? With whom did you speak by cell phone that day?"

The letter also asks, "If you had no contact with the individuals who sent these messages, who else would have informed them of your security needs or your location?"
BTW, somebody tell the ignoramus witchdoctor that the committee's legally legitimate and has been recognized to be so by several courts in the land, including today.

The DOJ Is Finally Asking the Jan. 6 Committee for Help
Here’s why that’s a huge deal.
Dennis Aftergut, Norman L. Eisen, and Stuart Gerson | May 19, 2022

...the Justice Department has asked the House Select Committee to Investigate the Jan. 6 Attack on the Capitol to provide transcriptions of the witness depositions and interviews that it has conducted... the department’s letter explained that the transcripts “may contain information relevant to a criminal investigation we are conducting.”

...three reasons we believe the DOJ revelation is such an important inflection point.

First, the investigatory train of accountability for higher-ups in the Trump administration appears to have left the station...

...Second, while Attorney General Merrick Garland has been criticized for the lack of visible action against Trump and other senior government officials, we have previously pointed to signs that the DOJ‘s investigation was actually climbing the investigative ladder toward those at the top.

...Third, the Justice Department letter tells us that Garland understands that the clock is ticking toward 2024.

...Our view is that DOJ delivered its letter with keen timing as the committee’s investigative work is winding down. An earlier request disclosing an accelerating DOJ criminal investigation could have chilled cooperation from multiple possible targets of that investigation, individuals whose testimony is now on the record...

Eastman provides new details of Trump’s direct role in legal effort to overturn election
Kyle Cheney | 05/20/2022

The court filing describes the direct role of Trump himself in developing strategy, detailing “two hand-written notes from former President Trump about information that he thought might be useful for the anticipated litigation.” ...

Eastman is also urging the judge, U.S. District Court Judge David Carter of California, to shield dozens of contacts with state legislators, some of whom he advised to appoint slates of pro-Trump electors, overriding the certified results of the popular vote in their states.

...The emails in question are all among 90,000 pages of correspondence Eastman sent from his account at Chapman University, where he worked during his bid to help Trump overturn the election. It was 623 days from the Watergate break-in to the indictments being handed down against Haldeman, Ehrlichman, Mitchell and 4 others.
623 days from January 6th, 2021 is September 21st.
Just a date to keep in the back of your mind.

Of course, if January 6th were Trump's only crime, or his first, this would be a more significant metric. The reality is that by any measure, when it comes to abuse of power by the last administration, our system has thus far failed us.

Before Jan. 6, Aide Warned Secret Service of Security Risk to Pence
Maggie Haberman | June 3, 2022

The day before a mob of President Donald J. Trump’s supporters stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, Vice President Mike Pence’s chief of staff called Mr. Pence’s lead Secret Service agent to his West Wing office.

The chief of staff, Marc Short, had a message for the agent, Tim Giebels: The president was going to turn publicly against the vice president, and there could be a security risk to Mr. Pence because of it.

The stark warning — the only time Mr. Short flagged a security concern during his tenure as Mr. Pence’s top aide — was uncovered recently during research by this reporter for an upcoming book, “Confidence Man: The Making of Donald Trump and the Breaking of America,” to be published in October.

Mr. Short did not know what form such a security risk might take...

See the next "John Dean". . .
"Cassidy Hutchinson, a top aide to then-White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, has sat for multiple depositions with investigators — more than 20 hours — and is expected to play a starring role in the hearings, according to people familiar with the matter.

"The Washington Post reported late last month that Hutchinson had told the committee that Meadows remarked to others that Trump indicated support for hanging his vice president after rioters who stormed the Capitol on that day started chanting, 'Hang Mike Pence!'"
A real blockbuster tell-all expected from the pair of inside-iest insiders: Jared & Ivanka taped interviews before the committee are expected to be aired.

Trump Is Depicted as a Would-Be Autocrat Seeking to Hang Onto Power at All Costs
Peter Baker | June 9, 2022

As the Jan. 6 committee outlined during its prime-time hearing, Donald J. Trump executed a seven-part conspiracy to overturn a free and fair democratic election.

...As the committee portrayed it during its prime-time televised hearing, Mr. Trump executed a seven-part conspiracy to overturn a free and fair democratic election. According to the panel, he
lied to the American people,
ignored all evidence refuting his false fraud claims,
pressured state and federal officials to throw out election results favoring his challenger,
encouraged a violent mob to storm the Capitol and even
signaled support for the execution of his own vice president.

...Unwavering, (Representative Liz Cheney of Wyoming) she sketched out the case and then addressed her fellow Republicans who have chosen to stand by their defeated former president and excuse his actions.

“I say this to my Republican colleagues who are defending the indefensible: There will come a day when Donald Trump is gone but your dishonor will remain,” she said.

Many of the details were previously reported, and many questions about Mr. Trump’s actions were left unanswered for now, but Ms. Cheney pulled together the committee’s central findings in relentless, prosecutorial fashion...

January 6 Vice Chair Cheney said Trump had a 'seven-part plan' to overturn the election. Here's what she meant
Dana Bash, Jake Tapper and Jeremy Herb | June 10, 2022

...A committee source later provided CNN the following description...:

"President Trump oversaw a sophisticated seven-part plan to overturn the 2020 election and prevent the transition of presidential power.

President Trump engaged in a massive effort to spread false and fraudulent information to the American public claiming the 2020 election was stolen from him.

President Trump corruptly planned to replace the Acting Attorney General, so that the Department of Justice would support his fake election claims.

President Trump corruptly pressured Vice President Pence to refuse to count certified electoral votes in violation of the US Constitution and the law.

President Trump corruptly pressured state election officials, and state legislators, to change election results.

President Trump's legal team and other Trump associates instructed Republicans in multiple states to create false electoral slates and transmit those slates to Congress and the National Archives.

President Trump summoned and assembled a violent mob in Washington and directed them to march on the US Capitol.

As the violence was underway, President Trump ignored multiple pleas for assistance and failed to take immediate action to stop the violence and instruct his supporters to leave the Capitol.

These are initial findings and the Select Committee's investigation is still ongoing. In addition, the Department of Justice is currently working with cooperating witnesses, and has disclosed to date only certain of the information it has identified from encrypted communications and other sources."...

Multiple GOP Congress critters sought presidential pardons. -- Liz Cheney (R-WY)

Obviously, we're all anxious to know the who's who. How long will we have to wait for the committee to name names? Until that time, there are two elements regardingthe headline that we all need to comprehend. Why? Because they're both legally damning.

1. Thinking you need a pardon indicates an awareness of criminality.
2. Soliciting a pardon is the admission of having committed a crime. In a word, GUILT.

So multiple Republican lawmakers knowingly sought to overthrow a legitimate government, i.e. attempted criminal sedition, and by their own actions clearly were aware that they not only were lawbreakers but had violated the Constitution that they were sworn to uphold. To state it plainly, those Trumpty-Dumbpty "multiples" are un-American criminals and the DOJ needs to charge them as such then prosecute them to the fullest extent (20 years in prison) of the law.

Trump knew he lost the election and pressured Pence to steal it for him. That’s

The Headline from the 3rd J6 Committee Hearing

Murder Was Afoot

It was Mike Pence Day on June 17th, 2022 -- and January 6th, 2021 when he was not a Republican, not an Evangelical, but an American.

He, though not present, was the corporeal representative of democratic values while retired Judge Luttig, a lifelong Republican (who was present), appeared before the Select Committee as the representative and defender of the abstract idea of the Great Experiment. What, in terms of take-aways, did they have to tell us about the events surrounding Trump's coup attempt?

1. DJT is a murderous criminal, in both the abstract and concrete: He tried to kill the people's faith in their election system; he tried to kill the tradition of peaceful transfer of power; he tried to kill the bedrock foundation of our democracy, the Rule of Law; and he literally tried to employ a violent mob to kill then VP Pence who had refused to go along with his nefarious scheme to stay in power illegally.

2. DJT and his Trumpty-Dumbpties are legally speaking a "clear and present danger" to America because they have already embraced violence and intend to use it again to seize power in 2024 if the election doesn't go the wannabe dictator's way.

Judge Luttig's Statement to the Select Committee

If students in America's public schools were required to take a civics/American government course, this (really) essay by a retired officer of the court and a deep thinker on the topic of American democracy and its bedrock, the Rule of Law.

Perhaps most chilling is Judge Luttig's warning to us all that we are at war in this country. It is a war being fought between those who wish the destruction of American democracy and those who wish to hold onto the ideal of forming a more perfect union based on that basic principle -- the Rule of Law.

The hour is late. God is watching us.

Making Pence his VP running mate solidified the evangelical vote behind Trump. They saw their guy (who was way too conservative and fundamentalist to ever build enough momentum to win the presidency on his own) one step away from the presidency. Since then a lot has changed and Pence is no longer their guy. Trump is and despite all the lies and terrible behavior. He's their guy now because since he came into power they've been getting things that before they could only dream of and one of them is rolling back Roe vs. Wade.

I can appreciate that Pence didn't budge or roll over for Trump on Jan. 6 like most of the rest of his party has and all the hypocritical right wingers out here who make excuses all the time for Trump notwithstanding and want to see themselves as morally virtuous and that showed something but people like Pence have always been part of the problem.

Opinion
Op-Ed: The insurrection won’t end until Trump is prosecuted and disqualified from future office
Laurence H. Tribe, Phillip Allen Lacovara and Dennis Aftergut | June 20, 2022

In a powerful warning Thursday, the patron saint of the conservative legal movement, former federal appellate Judge J. Michael Luttig, testified before the Jan. 6 Committee and pronounced former President Trump and his allies a “clear and present danger” to American constitutional democracy. As Luttig knows better than most, this historic phrase generates an extraordinary constitutional power of government to act — and a duty to do so.

Luttig’s verdict should be understood as a plea for Atty. Gen. Merrick Garland to proceed toward charging Trump with federal crimes that the public record now amply establishes. Only then will this nation be able to move forward from the ongoing insurrection.

Beyond the avalanche of documents and testimony pointing to Trump’s guilt and the principle that no one is above the law, there is an additional reason to indict Trump for his multi-faceted conspiracy in 2020 to override the vote. Upon a conviction for inciting insurrection, or being an accessory to insurrection, Trump would be subject to disqualification from acquiring federal office.

Section 3 of the 14th Amendment directs: “No person shall . . . hold any office . . . under the United States . . . who, having previously taken an oath . . . as an officer of the United States . . . to support the Constitution shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same.’'...

The clear and present danger to our democracy now is that former President Donald Trump and his political allies appear prepared to exploit the Electoral Count Act of 1887, the law governing the counting of votes for president and vice president, to seize the presidency in 2024 if Mr. Trump or his anointed candidate is not elected by the American people....

Opinion: Stunning Trump revelations raise fears of a dark, violent future
Greg Sargent | June 17, 2022

...“The former president and his allies,” Luttig continued, “are executing that blueprint for 2024 in open and plain view of the American public.”...

...The foreboding expressed by Luttig and others is shared by experts who study democratic breakdown. When Luttig says we’re at a “perilous crossroads,” and says only Republicans can “bring an end” to the threat, he’s not alone.

Two of those experts, Steven Levitsky and Lucan Way, professors of government and politics, recently argued that we’re heading into a “coming age of instability.” This is not a claim of pending “civil war.” It’s more subtle: a future of smoldering conflict akin to “the Troubles” in Ireland.

...How GOP leaders respond to the moment will help determine whether that happens, the scholars noted. It bodes badly that GOP leaders rejected a bipartisan Jan. 6 accounting and have “refused to unambiguously reject violence.”

If GOP leaders treated the Jan. 6 committee’s findings as revelatory and significant, Levitsky continued, it might steer us toward greater stability. This would prompt “institutional reform,” he said, and send a message to all levels of the party that “this is beyond the pale. We don’t do this in America.”

The alternative: GOP leaders don’t treat this as beyond the pale at all, but instead as containing the makings of a tolerable or even desirable future. This would impose a “great cost,” Levitsky said, because “many Americans will be left with a message of ambiguity.”...

I believed Thursday that I had that high responsibility and obligation -- to myself, even if to no other. Also please bear in mind that Thursday was the first time in 68 years, to my knowledge, I had ever been on national television, let alone national television like that.

And though not scared, I was concerned that I do my very best and not embarrass myself, as I think anyone who found themselves in that frightening circumstance would be.

I decided to respond to your at once astute and understanding tweet finally this afternoon, because I have been watching the tweets all day suggesting that I am recovering from a severe stroke, and my friends, out of their concern for me and my family,

The Headline from the 4th Hearing of the J6 Committee

"A Feature, Not a Bug" Probably a RICO Case

Violence and verbal intimidation with threats against personal safety are the favorite tools of DJT who wielded the full weight of presidential power like a weapon in order to bend honorable people to his shameless desire. They are the Rule, not the Exception for the man, his Party, and his followers.

Two things are the major take-away:
1.Donald Trump is the head of a criminal organization that uses death threats, violence, lies, and character assassination to force people to do its bidding. Everything we heard in part one of today's testimony is drawing the line directly between DJT's specific threats to state officials and private citizens and his illegal plot to overthrow the government. That reeks of the definition of RICO, which is successfully used to prosecute organized crime figures by linking their organization's purpose (illegal enrichment -- the ends) to its commitment of crimes (murder, extortion, bribery -- the means).

2.Donald Trump is a terrorist who stoops to targeting private citizens for the sake of holding onto power and corrupting democracy, its institutions, and traditions to serve personal criminal ambitions. Make no mistake, most Republicans, politicians, and voters, are for their organized crime family, aka the Party of Trump and against American democracy, the will of the people and the Rule of Law.

The Headline from the 5th Hearing of the J6 Committee

There Were TWO Attempted Coups Against Our Government by Trump

"Just say the election was corrupt and leave the rest to me and the Republican congressmen." -- Donald J Trump

Three DOJ witnesses testified to the fact that DJT knew he had lost the election fairly. DJT knew full well there was no evidence of election stealing, corruption, or fraud because all the DOJ officials told him on a daily basis that the investigations they conducted disproved all suspicions; in fact, they were all specious.

To get around the fact that he had lost, DJT, Rudy Giuliani, Mark Meadows, and "Dr." Eastman attempted to subvert the DOJ by enlisting an unqualified lackey to send an official DOJ communication to various battleground states that they should take a Mulligan and elect a fake slate of uncertified electors to send to Washington, D.C. on January 6th. Their man was Jeffrey Clark, who had never participated in any investigations into election meddling that the DOJ had been conducting.

Further, DJT and his criminal minions wanted the DOJ to file a specious lawsuit to litigate it's false "case" before the SCOTUS, using private lawyers. The DOJ refused.

Even further, DJT demanded the DOJ appoint a special counsel to further "investigate" and collect "evidence" supporting the Big Lie. His "man" was the "Kraken," Sydney Powell. And his intention was that she would "seize voting machines from states" which the DOJ refused to do since it was: a) illegal b) had no basis in fact c) had no standing as a function of the DOJ.

DJT needed to make Clark USAG.

At 4:19 PM on January 3rd, 2021, Donald J. Trump referred to Jeff Clark as USAG on official WH phone logs. At 6:15 PM that evening in the WH when DJT opened the meeting with a fatal comment, "What do I have to lose?", all the top leadership in the DOJ and all but two US Attorneys (one was unreachable and the other was asked to remain in place by Rosen) threatened a mass resignation because Jeffrey Clark was not considered competent by the Department. "Mr. Clark will be leading a graveyard," said Engels.

DJT backed down. But he made sure to throw the red meat of his defeat to those who would storm the Capitol three days later.
“Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passion, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence.” -- John Adams

Why didn’t Trump pardon ‘em all on his way out the door?

Easy: Pardons end the danger of criminal self-incrimination and thus prevent their recipients from taking the Fifth w/out being held in contempt.

Dangling pardons protects a corrupt POTUS; granting pardons puts him at risk.

More Congressional Seditionist Sweats

Close followers of the J6 Committee workings may remember this guy. . .
Ali Alexander, the conservative activist behind the "Stop the Steal" movement. . .told congressional investigators that he had communicated with several House Republican lawmakers ahead of the Jan. 6 rally and Capitol riot, along with at least one member of the Trump family's inner circle.
We already know from his Dec. 9, 2021 testimony that he "had a few phone conversations" with Rep. Paul Gosar, R-Ariz., potentially texted Rep. Mo Brooks, R-Ala., and spoke in person to Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz. Could that last bit reported by ABC, though, mean Donald Trump, Jr.? His fiancee of the moment, Kimberly Guilfoyle? Or even Himself?

Now we learn Alexander, aka, Ali Abdul Akbar, testified for nearly three hours before a D.C. grand jury that's conducting a secret probe into Trump's coup attempt. As CNN reported. . .
"Alexander is the first-known, high-profile witness to testify in the confidential criminal investigative proceedings related to rally organizing. In April, he publicly confirmed he. . .would cooperate with federal authorities."
Federal authorities, as in DOJ, as in Merrick Garland's business.

Certainly a few congressmen and a member of the Trump Crime Family are muttering to themselves about this cooperative little devil who just keeps on giving authorities the dirt. See anyone (else) wiping their sweaty palms?

Surprise!

Even though Congress is in recess until after the July 4th holiday, the J6 Committee, which announced a hiatus until after Congress returns has announced a surprise hearing tomorrow at 1 PM ET in order to present new evidence. Witnesses will also be expected to testify in front of the nine.

No announcement of the subject of this hearing has been made. However, semi-informed speculation leads me to believe the hearing may involve British documentarian, Alex Holder, who last week turned over his tapes of the Trump family interviews and filming that he made in the waning days of the last administration, including on January 6th.

There may be incriminating evidence of possible perjury concerning people who have already testified, like Ivanka, Jared, and others. Tune in tomorrow!

Trump's a pretty stupid fellow, and if he actually thought having a mob invade Congress would frighten all the Congressmen into making him President again, he's even stupider than I thought he was.

Just for the record, the word 'insurrection' should be used to mean an organized attempt to seize control of the state. By that definition, neither 6 January nor the Anti-Fa/BLM violent riots of the previous summer were 'insurrections'.

But if that's what you want to do, you had better make sure you have the military, if not on your side, at least neutralized. Ideally, the same for the police, although generally they can be overwhelmed by numbers. You must seize control of the communication system, both private and the media. You arrest the people who could be leaders of resistance to the insurrection. You put up roadblocks to keep your enemies from coming together. You announce the new government, and reassure everyone that all services will be soon restored, prisoners released, and free elections held. Soon.

It's just ABC. As Marx said, you don't play at insurrection.

For those of you thinking of organizing one, the goto book is Trotsky's History of the Russian Revolution. The how-not-to-do-it book is "A. Neuberg"'s Armed Insurrection. (The author's name is a pseudonym -- the book is actually a collection of essays, many from people who ignored the rules of insurrection in the 1920s and paid the price for it.)

Both are available via free download from https://Marxists.org -- where you can find hundreds of other free downloadable books by Marxists of various flavors.

Ring kissers, no better, ass kissers, of Donald Trump, will refuse to acknowledge two things:
1. That The Big Lie was never more than that.
and
2. That the insurrection wasn't an insurrection, it was just___________. Fill in the blank with a deceptive, deflecting euphemism.

No one who listened to today's testimony and any that has preceded can deny that the insurrection was anything but an ORGANIZED, PLANNED, SECRETIVE attempt to violently overthrow the legitimate government of the USA by SENDING armed right wing nut groups and brainless followers to invade the Capitol and to "fight' for the Big Lie by exercising their false 2nd Amendment rights. Oh -- and to hang Mike Pence when they caught him. Just like their Cowardly Leader, they believed, "He deserves it." Never mind what they thought Speaker Pelosi deserved, which would be too disgusting to post in comments where I will bring up the name of finally "disgusted" Cassidy Hutchinson, advisor and chief-of-staff to the Chief-of-Staff of then President Traitor, who never managed to get around to resigning in spite of being "disgusted."

Try downloading the truth. Have the honesty to acknowledge that facts are facts and evidence is evidence. No one with any capacity for reason can not tell right from wrong and deny the truth when they hear and see it. Even a "little person," like 25 year-old Cassidy realizes and admits the truth when repeatedly hit over the head with the facts of her own observations that what was going on around her (from at least January 3rd to days following January 6th) was dangerous, criminal, disgusting, and fully intended by Trumpty-Dumbpty.

Of course, this is what Leftists want to believe -- the same people who solemnly assured us that the violent riots of the preceding summer were just "mostly peaceful protests".

American Leftists have no knowledge of real revolutions. Except for a few little Marxist sects, they don't think in terms of the seizure of power. They're pursuing their goals by other means.

All i can say is that if you think that a mob of idiots invading Congress was the way you seize power, then ... well, I hope if you ever try to do it, you do it that way.

What were they thinking? "We'll scare those Congressmen into voting to make Trump president?" Really? Maybe they were, but if so, they were truly dumb. I don't think they were thinking at all.

Let everyone who violated the law, be subject to the law. Rioters and looters, or the dumb-asses who invaded Congress. If there were people who were actually trying to carry out an armed coup, then let them be prosecuted for sedition. Playing around with guns and talking about revolution doesn't count ... or if it does, the Socialist Rifle Association is in big trouble.

Of course, I'm sure you condemn violent anti-Fa attacks on conservative rallies, and the violent attacks on conservative speakers at campuses, just as I would condemn rightwing attacks on similar events hosted by the Left. So there we can agree ... so long as the right to free speech remains, and democratic elections occur, violence of any sort has no place in our society.

82Doug1943
Giu 28, 2022, 5:38 pm

No, most of the violence was the authentic expression of BLM/AntiFa. I'm familiar with the incident you're talking about, in Minneapolis I think, where a white supremacist started smashing windows. The mob didn't have to follow him but it did. And elsewhere it was authentic.

You're doing just what many of my fellow rightwingers are now doing re 6 January. They now realize what a PR disaster 6 January was for our side, so they're seeking to blame 'provocateurs'. Yes, there may have been some. But the mob chose to let itself be provoked. If you want to blame Trump, then he didn't do enough to restrain them, assuming he wanted to in the first place.

But neither the Leftist violent riots of the summer, nor the Rightist violent riot of 6 January, was a serious organized attempt to seize power. That's just not how you do it.

The Headline from the 6th Hearing of the J6 Committee

The MOGUL Has No Defense

On January 6, 2021, Donald Trump wanted to "hang Mike Pence." He knew that the crowd of people awaiting his speech were armed but that, "They're not there to hurt me."

Well, karma is a bitch. "She" literally hanged Donald Trump and Mark Meadows in today's surprising hearing when Cassidy Hutchinson confirmed what has been building from this investigation: That DJT is a power hungry traitor who only listens to like-minded power hungry co-conspirators. On January 6, 2021 he and his co-conspirators incited and set on foot an insurrection to overthrow the legitimate government of the United States, a specific felony which is defined and delineated here. §2383. Rebellion or insurrection. In a word, Trump's intent was to drive an INSURRECTION.

Cassidy Hutchinson wasn't just a fly on the wall, she is the major fly in the ointment for her former boss; DJT's Chief-of-Staff, Mark Meadows; as well as the WH counsel to Donald Trump, Pasquale "Pat" Cipollone. Meadows is the lynch-pin and prime facilitator of the conspiracy and of the conspirators' efforts to cover-up who incited the insurrection; who set on foot the insurrection; who assisted the conspirators; and who engaged in the conspiracy and/or the insurrection; and who provided aid and comfort.

The deeds and the cover-up.

It's always the cover-up that delivers the payoff that betrays criminal conspirators. Among whom are (to name but a heinous few) Roger Stone, Steve Bannon, Mark Flynn, Rudy Giuliani, Sydney Powell, Mark Gaetz, Mo Brooks, Andy Biggs, Louie Gohmert, Scott Perry, Marjorie Taylor Greene, "Pillow Guy," Jeffrey Clark, John Eastman, and Mark Meadows. In addition, anyone else who sought a pardon for their activities related to the invasion of the Capitol, plus other lickspittle Republicans who did nothing to stop or report the conspiracy, or who contributed to it in some way (such as the rally planners and financiers).

What we learned today is, at the very least the presidential cabinet members should have invoked Amendment 25, instead of just mulling the idea of it over. But their loyalty was to MOGUL, not their oaths. They did nothing required by their duty to the Constitution out of fear of Trump and their personal futures. Some sought escape from responsibility for their enabling roles by resigning. Still, they kept (and keep) their mouths shut about what they know in re what was going on in the WH and among their colleagues, their awareness of the president's plans for January 6th, and their knowledge of the satellite supporters of the president's Big Lie.

No one in the WH can plead ignorance of the seditious conspiracy happening under their noses. Nor can they pretend ignorance of the intent of the president to execute his self-defined role as commander-in-chief to his armed Big Lie rabble and brown shirt militant mob. Trump's WH counsel, Pat Cipollone was literally running down the West Wing halls (while Trump was haranguing the crowd on the Ellipse) to tell Cassidy and anyone else who would listen to do whatever it takes to stop the president from going to the Capitol at the head of his "troops" because, "We're going to be charged with every crime imaginable if we make that movement happen."

Intent. Conspiracy. Plot. Incitement. Soldiers. Violence. Sedition. It's all there, and more.

As a resident of Minneapolis, I have to say that Doug has no idea what he is talking about. A white supremist started the fire in the police precinct and shot a gun in the air, the umbrella man who started the riot was also a white supremist. Yes, there were non-white supremist bad actors after that. None of them were "BLM" and Antifa literally wasn't even here. Almost no one arrested for rioting was even from Minneapolis.

Please don't talk about my city, Doug. What you are saying LITERALLY did not happen here.

Check.

I also think that >78 Doug1943: imputes far too much knowledge and rather too much intelligence to most of those who invaded the Capitol. In my view many of them (ignorantly) — and like the truckers in Ottawa — thought that what they were doing was overthrowing an illegitimate government. Their ignorance renders moot the question of whether their riot met an academic standard for insurrection; they were attempting insurrection. If you wish, there was undoubtedly mens rea.

Instead, today's installment causes me to ponder just what the tantrum-prone First Child intended to do had he gone in person to the Capitol. Stand on steps and make another speech? Not likely. What I imagined was some sort of replay of Charles I bursting into the House of Commons on January 4, (interesting that!) 1642 to arrest five MPs. That did not end well for Charles.

Another J6 Trump 'Bombshell' Outed as a Hoax! |
By Matt Margolis Jun 28, 2022 8:17 PM ET

"On Tuesday, the liberal media soiled themselves over the so-called bombshell story that on January 6, 2021, President Trump grabbed the steering wheel of the presidential limo and then lunged at a Secret Service agent because he wanted to join the protesters at the Capitol.

"The story came courtesy of Cassidy Hutchinson, a former aide to Trump’s chief of staff, Mark Meadows.

“So when the president had gotten into the vehicle with (Secret Service agent) Bobby (Engel), he thought that they were going up to the Capitol. And when Bobby had relayed to him, ‘We’re not, we don’t have the assets to do it, it’s not secure, we’re going back to the West Wing,’ the president had a very strong and very angry response to that. Tony described him as being irate. The president said to him something to the effect of, ‘I’m the f—ing president, take me up to the Capitol now.’ To which Bobby responded, ‘Sir, we have to go back to the West Wing.’ He then reached up front of the vehicle to grab at the steering wheel. Mr. Engel grabbed his arm, he said, ‘Sir, you need to take your hand off the steering wheel. We’re going back to the West Wing, we’re not going to the Capitol.’ Mr. Trump then used his free hand to lunge towards Bobby Engel.”

"Any reasonable person would conclude this story was dubious. The liberal media, however, not so much. CNN gleefully described it as a bombshell(*), yet, like so many other Trump bombshells, it appears this incident didn’t happen at all, and is yet another hoax to add to the pile of bogus anti-Trump stories."

That describes the political-idiot's shit-hole in which our nation is stuck.

‘Unfit to Be Anywhere Near Power’: Washington Examiner Pronounces Trump Politically Dead After ‘Damning’ Testimony

The conservative-leaning outlet published an op-ed in the aftermath of Hutchinson’s many explosive revelations while speaking before the January 6 Committee. While delving into Hutchinson’s political background, the op-ed deemed her a “tremendously credible” witness who “did not overstate things, did not seem to be seeking attention, and was very precise about how and why she knew what she related and about which testimony was firsthand and which was secondhand but able to be corroborated.”

***
Now, Trump's infantile enablers and defenders have to show some guts because the reality train is finally leaving the station!

#88 of what I saw I would say Ms. Hutchinson's testimony was very credible. That throughout her appearance at the hearing she put names to other people/witnesses who may already have or could corroborate her testimony made it even more compelling. You might not like it but it's kind of expected that you would shill for Trump no matter what anyway.....so you do you.

>88 proximity1:

The Secret Service agents concerned are themselves reported to have directly refuted these claims---or didn't you read that part?

Your idea of "credibility" is truly wacky. In a court, her testimony would be excluded under the hearsay rule. The ignorance of the participants in these fora no longer surprises me.

91 Were you in such a rush to respond that you ended by responding to yourself?

On the question of hearsay until we actually hear from the secret service agents themselves who can like Hutchinson testify under oath to the committee in front of a national audience those reported refutations they’ve made actually are hearsay.

Regardless whether they turn out or not they are only a small but hardly crucial part of yesterday’s testimony and FWIW if all you can do is take down one point out of a great many points that Hutchinson made that’s not much of a defense.

It’s funny until yesterday I thought that Trump after goading the crowd into attacking the Capitol had wimped out on joining them. Instead it seems he actually did want to join them and to fire up the violence that took place even more.

I'm just curious about one thing. The Trump club responded to Hutchinson's testimony immediately, claiming to have debunked it. However, the speed with which they responded clearly indicates that they were prepared for this story. If Hutchinson's story is a lie, as Trump's liars claim, then how did they know it was coming so as to prepare their response?

Hoax? Like Hell / Cipollone Subpoenaed by J6 Committee

Literally word for word factual? Well, as any cop or trial lawyer knows, under repeated questioning, a witness' testimony stays the same in general but varies in detail.

Cops and lawyers will also tell you that anyone whose story stays identical from repetition to repetition is a liar who doesn't understand the difference between truth-telling variation and deceptive repetition. So, the liar trips up because of a misunderstanding of the word "consistent."

While we're on the subject of consistency, let's be sure to acknowledge that SS agents Tony Ornato and Bobby Engel are the president's detail. Ornato was also working in Trump's administration in the position of chief of staff for operations (security, trips, rallies, etc.) since the end of 2019. Let's also acknowledge that Carol Leonnig, the author of an expose on the SS during the Trump years, revealed that the pair “were very, very close to President Trump."
“And some people accused them of at times being enablers and ‘yes men’ of the president—particularly Tony Ornato—and very much people who wanted to do what he wanted and see him pleased,” Leonnig said. “And that was frustrating to agents who were more focused on, say, security, or being independent, or good planning. So, both of these individuals lose a little credibility because of how closely they have been seen as aligned to Donald Trump.

There was a very large contingent of Donald Trump’s detail who were personally cheering for Joe Biden to fail. And some of them even took to their personal media accounts to cheer on the insurrection and the individuals riding up to the Capitol as patriots. That is problematic,” Leonnig said.
Both agents claim they will testify before the committee under oath as to what happened in the presidential SUV.

But let's remember that Ornato and Hutchinson were not alone in the room when Ornato told his story about the presidential assault. Pat Cipollone was there, too. And the J6 Committee just subpoenaed Mr. Cipollone to testify before it. No one thinks he won't do so. Not the man who told WH Chief of Staff, Mark Meadows to stop the rioters or "blood will be on your f**king hands," only to realize that he was addressing a selectively deaf man.

Personally, I don't think he will contradict the essence of Hutchinson's testimony on this point, or any other points she observed and was told that day. Count on it, he'll be asked a lot more pertinent questions regarding Trump's role as the person responsible for much worse crimes than that brouhaha in the black SUV. In any case, that was merely a titillating side-show to the main event, which NO ONE who is credible denies is true, that Trump was angrily demanding to be transported to the Capitol so that he could personally partake in the seditious war going on there. What else would the person who incited the rabble and ordered the Secret Service to "take the MAGS away" so that more of his armed soldiers could force their way into the seat of the legislative branch while it was performing its Constitutional duty desire than to be present and gloat at the destruction, chaos, and fear they would provoke on his behalf?

Instead, he was transported to the West Wing where he spent the afternoon of Jan. 6th pouting in his usual infantile behavior, throwing food at the wall like a toddler in a high chair and not listening to any of the few adults in the room. Behavior only Trumpty-Dumbpties admire.

Mark Meadows, Witness Tamperer

According to numerous sources, Cassidy Hutchinson was the witness Rep. Cheney refused to name at the close of the 6th J6 Committee hearing. Hutchinson received two messages that she felt were intended to influence or intimidate her.
. . .on the eve of her earlier March 7 deposition, an intermediary for former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows contacted her to say that her former boss valued her loyalty.
Today we learned who "A person" is that was redacted from the slide referred to by Cheney which showed this message.
“(A person) let me know you have your deposition tomorrow.

“He wants me to let you know that he’s thinking about you. He knows you’re loyal, and you’re going to do the right thing when you go in for your deposition.” That person is Mark Meadows.

A Meadows spokesperson has denied it. But Meadows' lawyer did not respond to Politico's request for comment. Nor did the J6 Committee. Guess Politico hit a nerve.

Meadows refused to testify to the Committee and has been found in contempt. His case has been referred to the DOJ for charges. You'd think a guy being investigated by the DOJ on one charge already would have enough trouble on his plate to last a lifetime. Now he's likely to face a witness tampering criminal investigation but he won't be able to dodge any DOJ subpoena in the hopes of citing executive privilege. He put his foot wrong in the Biden Administration this time.

Jan. 6 committee notifies DOJ that Trump tried tampering with one of its witnesses, Cheney says
Brian Schwartz | Jul 12 2022

The House select committee investigating the attack on the Capitol on Jan. 6 revealed that they told the Department of Justice that former President Donald Trump contacted one of its witnesses who hasn’t publicly testified yet.

“After our last hearing. President Trump tried to call a witness in our investigation. A witness you have not yet seen in these hearings,” Rep. Liz Cheney, the vice chair of the committee, said on Tuesday.

“That person declined to answer or respond to President Trump’s call and instead alerted their lawyer to the call. Their lawyer alerted us. And this committee has supplied that information to the Department of Justice,” she added...

The Headline of the 7th Hearing of the J6 Committee

Trump's ABCs of Treason: "Lies, Deceit, and Snake Oil"

The House Select Committee has taken the public chronologically through the evolution of Trump's attempt to illegally hold onto power following his defeat in the 2020 election.

Plan A Subvert the election through an onslaught of fake and false claims put forth in a multitude of lawsuits across the country's courts.
Plan B Subvert the election by pressuring the vice president to refuse to certify the election results on January 6.
Plan C Subvert the election and overthrow the legal government by inciting a "locked and loaded" mob to violently attack the US Capitol and wreak mayhem, hang the vice-president, and assassinate any Democrats in its way, thus starting a civil war.

This is how the conspiracy behind Plan C unfolded.

The Rule of Trump vs. the Rule of Law was a blood match that rang in on the night of December 18, 2020 in an unscheduled "casual" meeting that took place in many rooms of the WH in an atmosphere of anger, profanity, name-calling, and sheer downright CRAZY when the representatives of Law said, "No!" and the representatives of My Way By Any Means locked in verbal battle. The match between normal and nuts broke off late that night when Trump told his professional advisors that the match team of kooks, Giuliani and Sidney "Kraken" Powell told him what he wanted to hear -- conspiracy theories and myths. With that, the perpetrator of chaos, division, and sedition took up his phone after one in the morning and issued the summons to his "Brown Shirt" militias and extremist racist followers for his last greatest rally on January 6th, texting, "Be there. It will be wild."

Their response was immediate and violent. It was clear to his people that Trump had rescinded his old Twitter command, "stand back and stand by," and issued a call to arms. Internet and media planning rapidly coalesced around getting to D.C. with offensive weapons, murderous intentions, and a commitment to overthrow the legal election in favor of appointing their Fuhrer to a second term. Plotting frothed on Twitter, right wing radio, and podcasts. Proud Boys, Oath Keepers, 3 Percent-ers, and angry organizers united under the coordination and prodding of two Trump lieutenants, Roger Stone and Mike Flynn, pardoned felons. This cabal of malcontents communicated by means of online posts and comments, secret web sites and chat rooms, and even public broadcasts that burned with fury against the country's democracy and how they would avenge their man's defeat.

Delusional Trump loyalists who believe they themselves are "We the People" alone, while denying the American values of majority rule and Constitutional processes, flouted their extremist desires and the lust for power evidenced by their god -- Donald Trump. In one published piece of evidence, the goal of the extremists was to overthrow the United States government in a "red wedding," a term that means mass slaughter. Multiple witness testimony makes clear that what happened January 6th was no grassroots spontaneous exhibition of misbegotten outrage. It showed beyond doubt that it was a planned armed insurrection designed to spark a civil war once it succeeded in interfering with the formal process of certifying President-elect Biden and assassinating their political enemies like "weak" Republicans and every Democrat in the Capitol.

We are lucky that the patriotic values of the Rule of Law, Free and Fair Elections, and Constitutional Democratic Majority Rule survived a corrupt tin-horn con man's violence-loving ambition to be king that drove him to formulate the conspiracy designed to destroy all three of those values -- personally.

We may not be so lucky when Trump, his crime organization that was the Republican Party, and his brain-washed worshipers try to have their way again. We learned today from Rep. Cheney, that after the end of the previous hearing, Trump himself tried to tamper with a witness via a personal phone call. There is no limit to the perfidy and criminality of Donald Trump. That's why there must be indictment and prosecution of the man for all the crimes he committed while wearing and hiding behind the cloak of the presidency.
“The truth unquestionably is, that the only path to a subversion of the republican system of the Country is, by flattering the prejudices of the people, and exciting their jealousies and apprehensions, to throw affairs into confusion, and bring on civil commotion.”
― Alexander Hamilton

Jan. 6 texts missing for Trump Homeland Security’s Wolf and Cuccinelli
DHS watchdog was alerted in February to unavailable records of top officials, but did nothing to alert or investigate
Carol D. Leonnig and Maria Sacchetti | July 28, 2022

...Text messages for former President Donald Trump’s acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf and acting deputy secretary Ken Cuccinelli are missing for a key period leading up to the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol...

In the weeks before the attack on the Capitol, Trump had been pressuring both men to help him claim the 2020 election results were rigged and even to seize voting machines in key swing states to try to “re-run” the election.

...Wolf and Cuccinelli had remained at DHS as Trump openly challenged the 2020 election results, even though the agency led efforts to help state and local governments safeguard the integrity of the election results.

Starting in late December, numerous DHS intelligence units across the country were warning of extremely worrisome chatter in white nationalist and pro-Trump social media platforms that were promoting coming armed to Trump’s Jan. 6 rally and using violence to block Biden from becoming president...

Wolf ... resigned five days after the attack on the Capitol...

MAJOR BREAKING NEWS: Trump’s Pentagon Deliberately Destroyed All Its Texts, Decimating Critical Evidence and National Security-Related Material in What Continues to Look Like—at DHS, the Secret Service, and now DoD—the Biggest Cover-up in American History

First on CNN: Jan. 6 text messages wiped from phones of key Trump Pentagon officials
Tierney Sneed and Zachary Cohen, CNN | August 2, 2022
https://www.cnn.com/2022/08/02/politics/defense-department-missing-january-6-tex...

PS/ We need no longer question why the Republican Party got behind the coverup of an armed insurrection. It’s become evident that the top levels of the GOP—within the legislative branch, the executive branch, and possibly even the judicial branch—had some complicity in January 6.

PS2/ Donald Trump inexplicably appointed four men to roles in (or connected to) the Pentagon after he lost the election—Kash Patel, Ezra Cohen-Watnick, Corey Lewandowsi, and David Bossie—at least two of whom, and likely all four, were active insurrectionists. This is scary stuff.

PS3/ One of the two reports I’ve been working on at PROOF is about how Trump *didn’t* give up on the idea of the Pentagon seizing voting machines after his December 18, 2020 meeting with Flynn’s “Team Kraken.” Major media has erroneously reported that he gave up on the idea then.

PS4/ If you erroneously believe Trump *didn’t* keep the door open to using the U.S. military to take over our democracy, you’ll see nothing suspicious in all these Pentagon texts being deliberately destroyed.

Unfortunately, the January 6 timeline points in a different direction.

PS5/ Bad reporting has consequences. Media has so often told Americans that Trump gave up on using the Pentagon for his coup on December 18—with him supposedly deciding to focus solely on January 6, instead—that this breaking Pentagon news will not horrify Americans as it should.

PS6/ So now we have missing Secret Service texts that could establish contacts between Donald Trump and the domestic terrorists of Stop the Steal, missing DHS texts that would reveal secret lobbying by Trump’s “legal team,” and possibly missing Pentagon texts about *martial law*.

PS7/ It’s in this context that America seriously considers putting the GOP in charge of the House of Representatives—though voters know this would lead to the end of any investigation of January 6. A GOP House in January 2023 would constitute *total capitulation* to insurrection.

PS8/ The *practical* question, now: do Americans have a moral right to presume the worst about Trump entities that deliberately destroyed federal evidence regarding January 6? Has the USSS, DOD or DHS left us with any choice but to assume the deleted texts would be incriminating?

PS9/ When it was *just* the Secret Service that selectively deleted critical federal evidence, we could look and say, “Maybe that was all Tony Ornato’s doing?” When we learned that the same thing happened at DHS, at first we were told it was an innocent mistake, until suddenly...

PS10/ ...we learned the DHS IG has a history of covering for Trump, hid evidence from Congress, and oversaw others at DHS who hid evidence from Congress. Is America required to be Charlie Brown a *third* time and *not* say, “Enough is enough, this is *clearly* a massive coverup”?

PS11/ Trump adviser Ginni Thomas spent all 2019 and most of 2020 urging Trump to purge every part of the government of anyone who wasn’t a Trump loyalist. Steve Bannon says his plan for a 2025 Trump return to the White House would start with *just such a purge*. This is relevant.

PS12/ America watched in 2019 and 2020 as Trump replaced Inspectors General across the federal executive branch. We watched as he made inexplicable appointments to key posts *after* his landslide November 2020 election loss. He wanted all of government to be under tight control.

PS13/ And now we find that none of the entities Trump spent years tampering with functioned in the way they were supposed to after January 6 happened and it was *blindingly obvious to every federal official in the executive branch* that *all text messages needed to be preserved*.

PS14/ We’re past the point at which we can believe that the Trump appointees who destroyed critical evidence in the largest federal criminal investigation in American history did so for innocent reasons. In fact, many of them were put in their positions to do exactly as they did.

PS15/ I’ve been writing on Kash Patel for years—and wrote within hours of the clearing of the Capitol in January 2021 that Congress needed to investigate what Patel was doing at the Pentagon in the leadup to that day. I continue to believe the FBI should be *way* up in his grill.

PS16/ As described in exhaustive—and *exhaustively sourced*—detail in the bestseller Proof of Corruption (Macmillan, 2020), Patel was on the “BLT Prime” team that sought to steal the 2020 election for Trump by manufacturing dirt on Biden with the aid of Kremlin allies in Ukraine.

PS17/ On the very day that Donald Trump sent his agent Kash Patel to the highest levels of the Pentagon, I knew as a Trump biographer that it meant that Trump felt the Pentagon might have a role to play in ensuring he remained in power. Now Patel’s phone has been illegally wiped.

PS18/ I continue to fear we may be in the last 36 months of the U.S. as we know it. Patel remains a top Trump adviser—and one of the most dangerous men in America. If the GOP takes the House in 90 days it may terminally cripple efforts to stop the insurrection Patel is a part of.

PS19/ We did have some indication that this was coming. As those who follow this feed and major media know, the Pentagon lied about the role of Michael Flynn’s brother Charles in key decisionmaking moments on January 6, 2021. Those stunning lies were never explained—nor punished.

PS20/ And a major PROOF report (🔐) long ago conclusively established that Trump Secretary of Defense Chris Miller lied under oath to Congress about January 6. He was recently caught lying again—on FNC—about whether Trump asked for National Guard troops.
https://sethabramson.substack.com/p/breaking-news-former-secretary-of

PS21/ When you put together the lies about Flynn, the lies by Sec. Miller, the four suspicious post-election appointments by Trump, Patel’s past as a Trump election-theft co-conspirator, the Team Kraken plan for the Pentagon that Trump never abandoned and now these wiped texts...

PS22/ The only conclusion a federal investigator could draw is that the Pentagon was a far more significant component of the January 6 coup plot than anyone—including the members of the House January 6 Committee—had previously understood. And that should *terrify* every American.

PS23/ I long ago lost track of how many *exponents* beyond Watergate we are, but suffice to say that if you’re alive right now and have the capacity to read this thread you will likely never see a scandal in America this big for the rest of your life—or even anything close to it.

Ginni Thomas Tells Jan. 6 Committee She Still Believes the 2020 Election Was Stolen from Trump

***
Trump planted this seed two months BEFORE the 2020 election took place. It apparently grew roots that remain in the grey matter of this SCOTUS wife to this day. And she just planted a seed that is going to sprout roots in many people's minds from now well into next year. Election deniers just got reinforcement from someone at the very top of the DC tribal food chain.

The GT-type person has always made anyone associated with Madison Avenue ad agencies very happy campers.

Let's just say it.

tRUMP violated his oath of office in the ultimate way - he led an insurrection in an attempt to overthrow our form of government and then make himself dictator for life of the U.S.

In short, pure and simple, straight up, tRUMP is a traitor. Let's use that word. That is what he is. And not just because I say so. Just go to the multitudinous video tapes.

This regularly perplexes me, too. Such a doofus is what the Electoral College voted into the POTUS position? There had to have be an intelligence scheme-- a conspiracy against the US-- for his election to have happened, right? It wasn't as if many of us weren't yelling in 2016 about the possibility of what happened on January 6; the danger was apparent from the beginning. But the reason the country had to suffer through it, anyway? There must have been reasons... right?!

Probably not. The interviews and the most credible (as in most verifiable) books released in the past several years build up an image of a simple-minded person who wants to be like his idols, who are powerful bullies.

Example: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/jun/12/fiona-hill-trump-putin-populism-...

Enough of the country has shared his desires (if none of his capacity to act on those desires themselves) and a willingness to have someone else act out their fantasies to put him in political power. Once there, Trump simply wanted to stay there.

It's not as if he actually had to do the work of the position to gain accolades for being in it. Obviously, he did not. He treated the presidency as if it was a bizzare spinoff of The Apprentice.

Although I used to think Vladimir Putin had a big plan that explained much of Trump's presidency, including his role in the insurrection attempt, this year's war against Ukraine has me questioning exactly how overrated has Putin's brainpower been this entire time.

People don't need to be clever to be very dangerous. Simple greed is enough.

Either way, in regards to Trump, I don't think there's much more than a commitment to himself above all others 100% of the time. He's as complex as any person is, but his motivations don't appear to be. To him, a country really could look no different than a company, and he doesn't seem to have ever learned neither how companies affect the lives of the people who aren't in control of them nor why he should care.

But the work is far from over and the department needs more resources to move full-speed ahead, more than a dozen sources close to the investigation told NBC News in July.{...}

The Justice Department has told Congress that more than $34 million in funding is "critically needed" to fund the investigation.

"Jan. 6 committee approves criminal referrals against Trump for his role in trying to overturn the 2020 election" by Scott Wong and Alex Seitz-Wald | NBC News

The House Jan. 6 committee voted Monday to recommend that the Justice Department pursue a batch of criminal charges against former President Donald Trump for his role in an effort to overturn the 2020 election and the fomenting of a deadly mob at the Capitol.

Trump was the first president in American history to be impeached twice. Now, he is also the first president to be formally referred by Congress for potential prosecution.

The committee's final meeting was the culmination of a sweeping 17-month congressional investigation that included more than 100 subpoenas, interviews with more than 1,200 witnesses and the collection of hundreds of thousands of documents.

Four Congressmen were also referred to the House Ethics Committee for defying subpoenas from the committee earlier this year: House Minority Leader "and potential incoming Speaker" Kevin McCarthy of California; Jim Jordan of Ohio, "who is expected to be the next chairman of the House Judiciary Committee"; Andy Biggs of Arizona; and Scott Perry of Pennsylvania. All four are Republicans.

Key points from the year-end meeting include:

1. (Then President) Trump pushed false allegations of election fraud.

2. Trump refused to accept the "lawful" result of the 2020 election even after losing dozens of lawsuits and plotted to overturn the results.

3. Trump knew his actions "would be illegal" and pressured Pence to "refuse to count electoral votes."

4. Trump urged DOJ officials to make "purposely false statements" regarding the 2020 election to overturn its results.

5. Trump "unlawfully" pressured state officials and legislatures to overturn the election.

6. Trump "oversaw an effort to obtain and transmit false electoral certificates to Congress and the National Archives."

7. Trump "pressured Members of Congress to object to valid slates of electors from several States."

8. Trump "purposely verified false information filed in Federal court."

9. Trump "summoned" his supporters to Washington based on "false allegations."

10. Trump targeted Pence on Twitter while the Capitol attack "was underway."

11. Trump refused to call off his "violent supporters."

12. Each of these actions by Trump "was taken in support of a multi-part conspiracy to overturn the lawful results of the 2020 Presidential election."

13. Authorities had briefed the executive branch on the "potential for violence at the U.S. Capitol."

14. Members of the antifa movement were "not involved to any material extent" in the Jan. 6 attack.

15. Authorities had no intelligence that Trump and his allies would try to "overturn the certified election results."

16. Capitol Police leadership "did not have sufficient assets" to handle an attack like Jan. 6.

17. Trump never ordered the deployment of the National Guard.

The criminal referrals to the DOJ:

• Obstruction of an Official Proceeding
• Conspiracy to Defraud the United States
• Conspiracy to Make a False Statement
• Conspiracy to Incite, Assist or Aid an Insurrection
• Other Conspiracy Statutes

The full release of the committee's final report is expected later this week.

What the Jan. 6th Report Says About the Fake Electors Scheme
“Freaking Trump idiots want someone to fly original elector papers to the senate President.”
Philip Rotner | December 26, 2022

...If it can be proved that Trump intentionally participated in the scheme to try to pass off forged documents as official state documents, and then use the phony documents to overturn an election, it wouldn’t make any difference why he did so. The act of participating in the scheme, in and of itself, regardless of his purported reasons for doing so, would still run afoul of all kinds of state and federal criminal laws.

The path to prosecuting Trump for the fake elector scheme—either as a standalone crime or as a crucial element of a larger conspiracy to overturn the results of a presidential election—became much clearer last week with the publication of the final report of the House January 6th Committee.

Until the publication of the report, there were arguably two open questions: (1) How high in the levels of Trump world did the scheme go? And (2), could at least some of the perpetrators assert a credible defense that they understood it was just a contingency plan to have electors in place in the event that the courts or state legislatures determined that Trump, not Biden, was the winner in one or more of the five states?

The report answered both questions. (1) The scheme went all the way to the top, right up to Trump himself. And (2), while some of the lower-level participants in the scheme—most likely some of the state-level GOP operatives who actually signed the phony certificates—may have been duped into believing that that it was a contingency plan, the higher ups who created and executed the scheme knew better.

They knew it was an action plan...

An interesting and particularly egregious example of how right wing sources are trying to rewrite history and change the narrative to one which suits their ideology. Anybody who was not aware of the reality might well be moved by this emotive statement.

An armed mob stormed the seat of government in an attempt to overthrow a democratic election result. Police officers were killed and injured during the assault (so by no stretch of the imagination can this woman be declared "the only injury suffered"). The mob was explicitly threatening to murder the vice president. A lone police officer was the last defence between the murderous mob and the unarmed elected legislators within the building. Warnings had been issued and ignored. As a last resort, he shot the first person who broke through the door. Sounds rather different when explained in that way, doesn't it?

>150 lriley: FWIW cops in the United States shoot black people for far less reason all the time

FWIW, that is worth nothing, IMHO. I don't think there's any real comparison between shooting people for the sort of dubious reasons that many black people are shot in the USA, and shooting the person in the vanguard of an armed mob attempting to murder the vice president.

As I pointed, $100 million is not anywhere near enough to repave every road in America; at a million dollars a mile for two lane roads, that would get 100 miles of road. You never responded to me. Looking up the numbers now, $100 billion is closer to the number we will have given Ukraine after the latest bill, and that's in the ballpark of what would be needed to repave the 50,000 miles of interstate highways, though I don't think it would cover it, as much of that is wider than two lane or in isolated areas. It would not cover all four million miles of roads in the US by a long shot.

No disagreement with you there. So following on from the questions in >156 prosfilaes:, why do you claim in >147 brone::

- that the death of a particular perpetrator was "the only injury suffered"?

- that the mob was unarmed?

- that attempted murder, and particularly the attempted murder of the vice president and elected legislators, to say nothing of the attempted overthrow of an election result which had already been questioned, audited, investigated and litigated more comprehensively than any previous election and subsequently declared valid, is merely "felony trespassing"?

These claims have been demonstrably falsified.

The obscenely dishonest bullshit about much concerning the events at the U.S. Capitol on January 6th, 2021 --after two years of official obfuscation of the documentation-- is about to be shown up for what it is:

... "Imagine the universal outrage in any other situation had crucial video of what the government considered a terror attack been kept away from the public for more than two years. Influential opinion pages would have banged the drum incessantly for its release, insisting some sort of cover up was unfolding. Progressive activist groups and elected officials would demand a full accounting of what happened before, during, and after the “attack,” including all government-produced evidence. Influential lawyers and legal defense funds would lament the deprivation of due process for those involved in the allegedly heinous act.

"Instead, the usual defenders of accountability, transparency, and constitutional rights have been completely AWOL. The fight has been waged by outmatched defense attorneys in the rigged legal and judicial system in the nation’s capital. And a handful of influencers like Carlson.

"To be fair, a consortium called the Press Coalition forced a few federal judges to lift protective orders on a small amount of surveillance video. Representing more than a dozen major news companies, the coalition successfully won the release of limited security footage that, in some instances, contradicted the assertion that police did not allow protesters into the building that afternoon. Unsealed video also showed how police brutalized women inside the lower west terrace tunnel.

"In a laughable “reality check” in his article, Axios reporter Mike Allen suggested the public has seen enough surveillance video since the 'Jan. 6 committee played numerous excerpts of the footage at last year’s captivating hearings.' But not only were most of the evidentiary video clips sourced from protesters’ cell phones, the surveillance video clips offered by the committee represented an infinitesimal sliver of the total collection.

"Which, notably, is much bigger than what the government has made available to January 6 defendants. Axios reported that Carlson’s team has 41,000 hours of raw footage --" ...

>158 proximity1: Wow. She brushes over the main issue here, and then you don't quote where she touches the main issue. If the Democrats had given the tapes to Michael Moore, I would have smelled cover-up. Not that I think Michael Moore is a bad guy, but he is a propagandist and decidedly on one side; choosing to give the tapes only to him is suspicious. Giving the tapes to the public is debatable; giving the tapes to Tucker Carlson is giving them to a one-sided propagandist with problems with truth and not to serious journalists or making them publicly available.
