The Plain Wrapper Press was one of the most distinguished fine presses of the 1970s and 1980s. Founded by Richard-Gabriel Rummonds, and later joined by Alessandro Zanella, the press was based in Verona, Italy and produced some of the finest books of that era. The imprint has now been revived by Mark Fischer as Plain Wrapper Press Redux, with Gabriel Rummonds serving as Publisher Emeritus. Their first book, The Kallima Butterfly by John Wagner, is now available. More information can be found at http://www.plainwrapperpress.com.

How exciting, a "new returning" press! Looks like another one to watch. Thanks for sharing!

Just last night, I saw the press listed in the Fine Press Book Association membership list and had to smile. Plain Wrapper back from the dead! Excellent!

Sorry if too OT:
I've read quite a bit about the Plain Wrapper Press (and even handled a couple of their books), and I admired their use of handmade paper, especially Wookey Hole. Some of the art is very appealing to me as well.

But I'm curious: those of you are fans/collectors of Plain Wrapper Press books, what is your favorite aspect of their works? What makes them especially stand out for you?

On March 1st The Grolier Club sponsored a Zoom talk by Mark Fischer, Gabriel Rummonds, and Jerry Kelly on the Plain Wrapper Press Redux, touching on the legacy and accomplishments of the PWP and their ambitions for the revival of that imprint. It can be found at https://www.vimeo.com/687467125 and there is also a link at https://www.plainwrapperpress.com
It is 1hr and 13 minutes and 47 seconds of Zoom, which could test one's devotion to the subject, but DenimDan and others might find some useful information there.

>5 letterpressdotcom: Despite my loathing Zoom meetings, this was a really cool video! I guess it always helps when you can fast-forward. Anyone who has an interest in 20th c. fine press books, not just PWP, could enjoy this. Lots of great spreads (like 30-40) from different presses.

Also worth noting -- today is Gabriel's 91st birthday. Tanti auguri! Remarkable, and encouraging, that he is still active in book design and publishing.

By the way, after seeing some of those calligraphic initials and the tasteful selection of modern artists, I think I understand a bit more about the special appeal of PWP. I'll be doing a deep dive into their work when I get the chance to hole-up in the special collections library!
