I think the title was Children Of E..? ( I started the book a bit back but never finished it. and Im not 100% sure on the title it just seems right)

Kids parents are murdered he is on the run, he is on the street and guards try to find him, he has magic, guy finds him and helps him hide, teaches him magic, they infiltrate the technology warehouse where aliens are, find secret sublevel discover a whole bunch of aliens. Finds out aliens are infecting peoples minds.

They run to earth where more aliens are, meet girl with magic staff and magic.

Also just remembered that the magic system was that no energy could be created or destroyed, just redirected. sometimes they would carry batteries to charge their magic, and they could also take heat from stuff to use the magic.

>1 ArcherSchlesinger: Any possibility it was the Children of Elgen series (later the name was changed to the Michael Vey series)? It doesn't fit up with everything you said, but the system for powers is very similar. Seven books, and the most recent one came out in 2017.

>8 RosetheReader: I actually just came on here to say I had found the book I was looking for, Children of Enochia by Luke Mitchell is the third book in the series the first book is Shadows Of Divinity: The Enochian War, Book 1 by Luke Mitchell. I might look into that series though, it sounds good!
