Children's book about two stone lions

I read it in 1999 it was two stone lions went on an adventure. I want to say they are based off of patience and fortitude. From the New York library. Hillary and the lions sounds similar but it's not it. The cover was colorful and the lions had stone texture they didn't look smooth. I have ruled out the stone lions and Charlotte and the lion. I am also not a time traveler so it was not published after 1999.
