One in three Americans say violence against government justified – poll

At time of Capitol prayer service Jan. 6, Trump will deliver remarks doubling down on the ‘Big Lie’

People around the world may again be watching in horror as the events taking place in America unfold on this January 6. A combination of the Trumpism religion and an international pandemic is placing a horrific strain on America's democracy several years before the celebration of our country's 250th birthday. The Nixon era provided a similar strain on our democracy a few years before the celebration of our country's 200th birthday. However, modern-day GOP reps don't appear to care about saving our democracy this time around ~ preserving their power is their 21st century goal.

One year later: Why January 6th still erodes our democracy
by Howard Kurtz

I now say January 6th was a double tragedy.

It was an ASSAULT ON OUR DEMOCRACY that we all saw play out in chilling fashion, on screens and smartphones, in real time.

And it has morphed into a deeply polarizing debate over what happened, how bad it was, who is to blame, and whether the investigation of those events is excessively partisan.

In some ways, our hate-filled polarization is worse than the death and destruction inflicted at the Capitol, because it strikes at the heart of our republic.

>4 librorumamans: Thanks for sharing the original referenced in the piece I put in the Breitbart thread.

I'm just encountering this little sign of the times: Brian Williams's sign-off last month.

https://www.mediaite.com/tv/brian-williams-signs-off-the-11th-hour-for-the-final...

Well, look at the time. I’ll try to keep this brief. After 28 years of peacock logos on much of what I own, it is my choice now to jump without a net into the great unknown. As I do for the first time in my 62 years, my biggest worry is for my country. The truth is, I’m not a liberal or a conservative. I’m an institutionalist. I believe in is place. And in my love of my country, I yield to no one.

But the darkness on the edge of town has spread to the main roads and highways and neighborhoods. It’s now at the local bar, and the bowling alley, at the school board, and the grocery store. And it must be acknowledged and answered for. Grown men and women who swore an oath to our Constitution, elected by their constituents possessing the kinds of college degrees I could only dream of have decided to join the mob and become something they are not while hoping we somehow forget who they were.

They’ve decided to burn it all down – with us inside. That should scare you to no end as much as it scares an aging volunteer fireman.

To my coworkers, my love and thanks. And I say again, everyone I’ve worked with has made me better at what I do. To my family, love and thanks doesn’t begin to cover it. But now I have the time to better express it. My friends know who they are. No one’s been blessed with better friends. To the guests on this broadcast, as you heard the nice man say a few minutes ago, it’s always been about you. Otherwise, I’d be staring into the camera for an hour, five nights a week. And nobody wants to see that. You are The 11th Hour and will continue to be The 11th Hour. This is where I thank you, however, for being so great for explaining these last five years.

As a proud New Jersey native, this is where I get to say, regrets, I’ve had a few, but then again, too few to mention. What a ride it’s been. Where else, how else was a kid like me going to meet presidents and kings and the occasional rock star? These lovely testimonials that I can never truly repay make me hyperaware that it has been and remains a wonderful life. It’s as if I’m going to wake up tomorrow morning in Bedford Falls. The reality is though, I will wake up tomorrow in the America of the year 2021, a nation unrecognizable to those who came before us and fought to protect it, which is what you must do now. My colleagues will take it from here.

I will probably find it impossible to be silent and stay away from you and lights and cameras after I experiment with relaxation and find out what I’ve missed and what’s out there. Every weeknight for decades now, I’ve said some version of the same thing. Thank you for being here with us. “Us,” meaning the people who produced this broadcast for you. And you, well, without you, there’s no us.

I’ll show myself out. Until we meet again, that is our broadcast for this Thursday night. Thank you for being here with us. And for all my colleagues of the networks of NBC News, good night.

Karl Rove Challenges GOP in Blistering Jan. 6 Op-Ed: ‘What If the Other Side Had Done It?’

So, on this anniversary, here’s a simple thought experiment: What if the other side had done it? What if in early January 2017, Democrats similarly attired and armed had stormed the Capitol and attempted to keep Congress from receiving the Electoral College results for the 2016 presidential election?

What if Democrats claimed that Donald Trump’s razor-thin victories in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin resulted from extensive voter fraud and should be rejected, despite having failed to establish in a single court that extensive fraud had actually occurred?

What if some of these Democrats breached the Capitol defenses and threatened violence against the Republican speaker, Paul Ryan, and Republican Senate majority leader, Mitch McConnell?

What if they insisted that in his role as Senate president then-Vice President Joe Biden had sole authority to seat Hillary Clinton’s electors from any contested states and thereby hand her the presidency?

If this happened, would some of my fellow Republicans have accepted it as merely a protest? Would they have called patriots those charged with violent acts against our country, its laws and Constitution? Would they have accepted such extralegal means to change the outcome of a presidential election?

No they would not. I’m certain of that.

According to Raskin, who serves on the Jan. 6 committee, rioters called and were “asking whether there was a lost and found because they forgot their phone there, or they left their purse or what have you.”

Predictably, authorities became involved and suckered the rioters into giving them their personal information.

“The officers quickly got on the phone and said, yeah, just give us your name, your address, your social, you know, and we’ll tie up those loose ends,” Raskin said. “But what’s so fascinating to me about that there really were people who felt as if they had been summoned to Washington by the president.”

“They didn’t have any kind of subtle understanding of the separation of powers,” he said. “They just thought that the number one person in the U.S. government had invited them to be there, and therefore they had a right.”

It wasn't an insurrection, by any meaningful interpretation of that word.

It was a 'riot', sort of, with the intention pressureing Congress to not recognize what its participants thought of as a stolen election.

The word 'insurrection' should be used to refer to attempts to seize political power from an existing regime, replace its people with those of the insurrectionists choice.

By that defintion, neither were violent AntiFa/BLM riots of that summer 'insurrections'.

Here's how you carry out an insurrection: you seize and imprison the existing government; you seize or neutralize all the means of communication; you take control of, or neutralize, the armed organs of the state -- the police and military.

For an example of a successful insurrection, read Trotsky's History of the Russian Revolution.
For examples of unsuccessful ones, read A. Neuberg's Armed Insurrection. Both available free fromhttps:// Marxists.org.

Both the AntiFa/BLM rioters and the 6 January rioters should be subject to the appropriate legal actions.

Those who wish to support the misguided patriots of th3 6 January events should see https://PatriotFreedomProject.com/.

The 6 January events, whether or not there were agents provocateurs present, were a huge gift to the Left -- yet another example of the political primitiveness of the ranks of the Right.

We should have had twenty thousand men there, organized into groups which could steward the main demonstration -- both protecting it from AntiFa violent attacks, and dealing with agents provocateurs or hotheads who wanted to to play into the hand of the Left by turning a peaceful demonstration into a riot.

The French CP and trade unions, who have a lot of experience of mass demonstrations in tense situations, have something called a service d'ordre to marshall their demonstrations.

Patriots need to emulate them.

43Doug1943
Gen 18, 2022, 11:35 am

>42 librorumamans: If they're tough enough, sure. In fact, special all-female squads would be useful in some situations ... I think most anti-Fa are too depraved to have a spark of chivalry -- they're perfectly happy to throw half-bricks into crowds with grandmothers in them -- but it might give us an advantage in some situations.

But the problem is, conservative men are chivalrous -- or most of them are. And the problem with a mixed-sex group is that the men would want to protect the women, which would distract from completing the mission. In these situations, everything must be subordinated to completing the mission.

Okay, I'm a "man of the old formation", as the Russians say, so maybe I'm out of date here. I'm a pragmatist. Whatever works to make my side stronger is fine, and anything that's motivated by 'social justice' or other stupidities should be discarded.

And how disappointing that is. So I feel that disappointment in the human experiment.

I feel it, but again, it’s a shifting thing. It may change. We will get better. We have moments of greatness in our history, but we have these incredible down moments, and we’ve just been through the riot of January 6 — put the kibosh on everything, as far as I was concerned. And all the love that I had for America, I just thought, “What the f*ck’s going on? What is this? What is this?”

This seems quite in line with your description of events: they wanted to seize power from the duly and legally elected government of the United States and replace it with people of their choice.

By your definition, this is an insurrection.

The fact that they were not successful in their insurrection does not make it any less an insurrection.
protecting it from AntiFa violent attacks, and dealing with agents provocateurs or hotheads who wanted to to play into the hand of the Left by turning a peaceful demonstration into a riot.
