Best places to find legal Anime . . .

He, so you need to be really careful about what websites you use, so here is my(admittedly small) list of completely legal anime sites.
- Crunchyroll
- Animeplanet
- VRV
- Funimation
Aaaaand . . . Thats is. Disappointing, I know, but keep in mind that these ARE legal and are better than finding your anime illegally.

Feel free to contribute and/or check these out! If you already know of them, great!

It depends what country you're in.

This spreadsheet has details for the UK: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Q3cEK6YMeiHE5HTUuNd4iaj21j6f0-Rqg9gcQ28X...

>1 Silas-_-: Links...

News: Sony is merging Funimation, VRV, and Wakanim with Crunchyroll. The links will likely change this year. Anime Planet will continue to be its own thing, as far as I know.

The sites above offer some shows for free, usually without registering for an account. So do the following sites...

- Pluto TV (currently owned by Paramount), https://pluto.tv/en/live-tv/anime-all-day

- TubiTV (currently owned by Fox), https://tubitv.com/category/anime

- VUDU (Fandango), https://www.vudu.com/content/movies/uxrow/Anime/6736

Other streaming services that offer anime, under a paid subscription:

- Hulu (currently owned by Disney), https://www.hulu.com/hub/anime

- Netflix, https://www.netflix.com/browse/genre/7424 -or- https://www.netflix.com/browse/genre/6721 (series)

- HBO Max, https://www.hbomax.com/collections/anime

- Roku, https://www.roku.com/ (!must have a Roku player)

The links I have are for viewers in the USA. In a different country, you might be redirected to a site for your region.

Retro anime and live action adaptations, free or with a premium subscription:

- RetroCrush (by Digital Rights Media)
https://www.retrocrush.tv/

They have shows I've been wanting to watch for years but couldn't find!

>8 luciferzap7: 💢

Watching an industry fall to pieces because too much of the audience is made up of thieves who don't care about consequences to anyone is frustrating. I've seen creators and distributors stop providing content because of excessive pirating too many times.

And I remember when access to anime outside of Japan was extremely limited. Getting to watch a **** load of free or inexpensive shows online from licensed distributors is really fun. You still have to find what you want but then don't have to worry (as much) about getting fined or harming the creators.

>10 luciferzap7: I can't think of any anime companies based in Hollywood, so I don't know what you're talking about.

ETA: I'm going to look this up. Now I'm curious where the companies above are based.

i mean like movies filmed in hollywood, those actors make a lot of money, i wasnt really talking about anime companies based there. idk i was just being dumb

Turns out >10 luciferzap7: is insightful. I was wrong in thinking anime streams aren't going through Hollywood.

>19 cheesesticks: Digging a little more, I'm fairly certain Anime-Planet is an independent company based in Seattle, Washington, USA. The founder has worked for Microsoft and Google, made deals with big anime (and manga) distributors to supply content, but not given control any of the mega corporations.

any more sites to find legal anime?

24aspirit

Adult Swim
owned by Warner Bros.
HQ: Atlanta, Georgia, USA

This is a program offering mature animated shows that have ⚠️ transgressive themes. There's always some anime; that's what made Adult Swim famous a long time ago. Currently available for free online without a subscription are Cowboy Bebop, FLCL, and Ghost in the Shell: SAC. For cable subscribers, there's also Naruto (uncensored?) and more.

Here are more options from Digital Rights Media. I thought all these shows were on RetroCrush, but a quick check for Library Wars on the three sites proved me wrong.

AsianCrush
https://www.asiancrush.com/search?s=anime

Midnight Pulp
for "strange" stuff, including Horror shows
https://www.midnightpulp.com/search?s=anime

For anime on discs...

Right Stuf
A 35-year-old US (Iowa-based) company as of this month is owned by Crunchyroll/Sony.
https://www.rightstufanime.com/

And, turns out, Crunchyroll has its own store. (I don't know of anyone who's ordered from it.)

at this point, legal places to watch anime are a thing of the past. There are thousands of illegal pirate sites across the internet.
