Hello good people,
Would it be possible to have a small place in Common Knowledge on the author page for a disambiguation notice where I could put "Please note that this is XX who is.. and not YY who is…"
I understand that when there are several authors with the same name, there is a disambiguation page and a disambiguation notice on that page.
Today I noticed on the author page for Martin Walker #1 that someone added links that belonged to a different author, who is Martin Walker #3. On the disambiguation page it says Martin Walker #3 has been aliased into Martin J. Walker. I decided to correct the links today so that one of the links would correctly point to Martin J. Walker#1 and not Martin Walker #1. I found from the history that I had corrected this problem once before, but obviously someone corrected my correction.
I know this is a very confusing example, but I think it would be less confusing if we could put a note on Common Knowledge or under the links.
Thank you,
k4k

As it took me a bit to understand why you ask for a field we already have:
You mean on authors inside of a split such as https://www.librarything.com/author/walkermartin-1 - right? Because we already have it on the main page for split authors (the only field it works) and on non-split ones.

But it would act as a brake and a caution, much the same way a disambiguation notice does on work combinations, yes?

>2 AnnieMod: Do you mean the sentence at the top of the page? I was hoping for something in Common Knowledge or in the link section.

>4 krazy4katz: It IS added as common knowledge.
Or do you mean for it to show up anytime you edit any field/links?

Now and again it would be very useful to have a disambiguation notice on the split pages. I have several times wished for that recently.

>5 AnnieMod: Sorry! I keep looking at Common Knowledge for the author and can't find it. Maybe my brain? :-)
But it might be helpful in the links section too.

No, Author isn't in CK. but there is CK on author pages.

>8 MarthaJeanne: Sorry, that is what I meant. I just worded it poorly.
ETA: OK. Now I am really confused. As I have said before, I do NOT see a place for a disambiguation notice in Common Knowledge on the Author page for Martin Walker #1.
However, I DO see a place for a disambiguation notice at the bottom of Common Knowledge for a recent author Catherine Clinton.
Yours in eternal confusion….k4k

That's because the disambiguation notice for split authors in on the disambiguation page. There isn't one on the split pages.

>9 krazy4katz: I guess I will just live with it. Incorrect links are probably a small problem anyway, although I haven't actually checked.
