Swedish artist Lars Vilks died in a car crash on October 3 at the age of 75. His work includes Hur man bler samtidskonsynar pa tre dagar and Konstteori.

Baseball player Eddie Robinson died October 4 at the age of 100. He wrote Lucky Me: My Sixty-Five Years in Baseball.

Former sports executive Bernard Tapie died October 3 at the age of 78. His books include Gagner (To Win) and Librement.

Paul Reizin, the author of five novels, including Happiness for Humans, and one work of nonfiction (Date Expectations), died October 1. He was 67.

Biographer Martin J. Sherwin died October 6 at the age of 84. His books include American Prometheus and A World Destroyed.

Boxer Tony de Marco died October 11 at the age of 89. His memoir was called Nardo: Memoirs Of a Boxing Champion.

Folk musician Robin Morton died October 1 at the age of 81. He wrote FolkSongs Sung in Ulster and edited Come Day, Go Day, God Send Sunday.

Cheese promoter Anne Saxelby died October 10 at the age of 40. She wrote The New Rule of Cheeses.

Gary Paulsen, bestselling children's author and three-time Newbery Honor-winner known for books such as Hatchet, Brian's Winter and The River, died suddenly on October 13. He was 82.

Film director Barney Platts-Mills died October 5 at the age of 76. He wrote Double Trouble: A Story for A Horror Film.

Artist Atta Kwami died October 6 at the age of 65. He wrote Kumasi Realism.

The last member of France’s Companion of the Liberation Hubert Germain died October 12 at the age of 101. He wrote Esperer pour la France.

Civil rights activist Timuel D. Black died October 13 at the age of 102. His books include Sacred Ground and Bridges of Memory.

Business executive Gerry Robinson died October 14 at the age of 72. He wrote I’ll Show Them Who’s Boss!

Holocaust survivor and author Eddie Jaku died October 12 at age 101. Born Abraham Jakubowicz to a Jewish family in Leipzig, Germany, Jaku emigrated to Australia in 1950, where he lived for the rest of his life. His memoir, The Happiest Man on Earth: The Beautiful Life of an Auschwitz Survivor, was published in May of this year and became an international bestseller.

Former US Secretary of State Gen. Colin Powell died of complications from COVID-19 on October 18 at the age of 84. His books include My American Journey and It Worked for Me.

In between I had an autologous stem cell bone marrow transplant in April which kept me in the hospital for 15 days and with all that I have concerns for my own immunity and will be laying low for a while.

Voice actor Jack Angel died October 19 at the age of 90. He wrote The Book of Jack and How to Succeed in Voice-Overs.

>19 varielle: my doctors wanted me to get it done again and what I did was email my State Senator and his office set it up with the county health dept. and I don’t even vote for the guy but his office did a good job and I do appreciate that even if I’m going to vote for his opposition. The health dept. only needed a paper from one of my doctors and that was it. If anyone ever needs some kind of help like this that is how I went about doing it.

Jerry Pinkney, the children's book illustrator whose honors included a Caldecott Medal, five Coretta Scott King Awards and a lifetime achievement award from the Society of Illustrators, died yesterday from a heart attack. He was 82 years old. His illustrations appeared in The Adventures of Spider: West African Folk Tales by Joyce Cooper Arkhurst, The Planet of Junior Brown by Virginia Hamilton, which was a Newbery Honor Book, and he was the cover artist for Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred D. Taylor, which won the 1977 Newbery Medal. And many more...

Architect Alan Lapidus died October 15 at the age of 85. He wrote Everything by Design: My Life as an Architect.

Poet and critic Maire Mhac an tSaoi (it’s Gaelic) aka Maire O’Brien, died October 16 at the age of 99. Her books include The Same Age as the State and A Concise history of Ireland.

Newspaper editor Nigel Hawkes died October 18 at the age of 78. His books include The Mysteries of the Universe and Fantastic Cutaway.

Professor Sir Michael Rutter died October 23rd 2021. He wrote many books on child psychiatry.

Bluegrass musician Sonny Osborne died October 24 at the age of 83. He wrote Bluegrass Banjo and Mel Bay’s New Bluegrass Banjo.

Sports writer Arnold Hano died October 24 at the age of 99. His books include Willie Mays and A Day in the Bleachers.

Documentary film maker George Butler died October 21 at the age of 78. He wrote John Kerry: A Portrait and Arnold Schwarzenegger: A Portrait.

Psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi died October 20 at the age of 87. His books include Flow, Creativity, and Finding Flow.

Economist Anthony Downs died October 2 at the age of 90. His books include An Economic Theory of Democracy, Stuck in Traffic, and Still Stuck in Traffic.

Soccer player snd manager Walter Smith died October 26 at the age of 73. His memoir was called Mr. Smith: The Fan who Joined the Ibrox Legends.

Former governor of Virginia A. Linwood Holton, Jr. died October 28 at the age of 98. He wrote Opportunity Time.

Paddy Moloney of the Irish folk group The Chieftains from November 1962 until his death (almost 59 years!) died on 12 October 2021 aged 83. The group's 44 albums include Long Black Veil, in which they recorded each track with a different guest, including Mick Jagger. Song titles and lyrics from songs the Chieftains made famous have been used for many novels and works by others, eg Long Black Veil and She Walks These Hills.
