For such a short book, In the Heart of the Country it taking forever to read. I also need to get back to Contact and begin Memento Mori.

I started The Goldfinch for the October challenge but I disliked the first 60 pages so intensely that I abandoned it at a B&B where I was staying. Have never done that before! Now I'm reading a volume of short stories by Simon Carmiggelt from the Dutch list, a translation of his Kroeglopen. Chosen because it promised that its author was a humorist.

I am currently reading Cat's Eye by Margaret Atwood for the monthly challenge.

I will attempt to finish Vol 3 of Pilgrimage, which includes Books 6, 7, and 8, this month. I'd like to complete the last volume (Books 9 - 13) by the end of the year.

I might also go for Melmoth the Wanderer by Charles Maturin to coincide with Halloween.
