Found: Historical romance, hero is traumatized, always wear gloves

Only part I remember from the book is that the hero was traumatized at the war; he had to remain with a dead body in a pit for days. He starved, lost a lot weight and such. Because of this he can't touch people with bare hands and always wear gloves. I just read this book like 10 years ago and impressed deeply about hero's past. So only thing that I remember is this part. I hope you can help me. It's driving me crazy.

This sounds like a character from Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo but that's a fantasy heist novel so I don't think it's the one you're looking for. Just in case, though!
