10 or so years ago, picked up a short audiobook from library (2 disks or less). never found it again, but would like to reference it in some writing I'm doing, but can't come up with the title. Obviously can't describe the book cover.

Novella or longer short story.
Several plot points:
* Adult man living with overbearing mother who berates him. He's a very vanilla man who's never done anything interesting in life. (Walter Mitty sort of thing)
*Decides to be more adventurous. Much resulting mayhem at office (a construction company or similar? lots of conflict over coffee )
*eg. Goes to get his first massage, picks the wrong kind and ends up with a "happy ending" from large Af-Am woman who chats him up the whole time (crude but hilarious)
* Somebody at office murders boss, He takes the blame because he thinks the female inspector is cute and doesn't know how to meet her otherwise.
* Story ends with him in prison for murder, occasionally confessing to a new murder, just so the inspector will come to see him.
Reads like Confederacy of Dunces (absurd comedy)

Title was something like the following construction: The adjective life of fellows name or something very meta like that.

that's vague, I know, but that's about all I can remember now.
thanks.
