We just discovered that folks with MacBooks are getting corrupted views of the catalog. Two columns for authors and an extra one that says Google Books. Does anyone know why this is happening and if there is a cure?

I have a MacBook Pro and I am seeing the Google" column on your catalog and on my catalog when I view it from the "D" option of viewing choices. It something I had not seen before - but I usually don't view my books from "D" so I have no idea how long it has been there.

>4 LadyLo: What is the name of the column where you see it (My D style had been customized so I cannot see what it is). :)

>1 MWGuild: Are you able to send over a screenshot of what folks are seeing, re: the corrupted view? What about it seems corrupted, exactly? I'm curious if this is a simple display Style issue or something else.

>5 AnnieMod: I thought all catalogs came with different styles - from A to E. I don't recall ever choosing that option. It is the "D" style of viewing that shows a column called "Google Books".

>8 LadyLo: They do - but you can customize any of them (https://www.librarything.com/settings/styles) - and mine had been changed so no clue which field you may be seeing there:)

I can't send a screenshot but it is a column between Ratings and Swap (all sites) in the D option of viewing.
I have to admit, I seldom change my viewing mode so don't know how long that column has been there. I didn't even realize there was a "Swap" column.

Tip:
For those of us like me who have changed our styles, we can see the "default" Style D by using an incognito browser window. With the latest Chrome on a Macbook and logged out, I can confirm that I see this but I don't know what's supposed to be "corrupted" about it. The "two columns for author" are First Last and Last, First.

>14 LadyLo: I think it is a left-over from an older system of linking works to external sites... Why is it still in the default styles is unclear though
>1 MWGuild: It has nothing to do with them being on MacBook - they just selected the "D" style in the catalog or it defaulted on it because that's the last they used on a catalog in LT.
>13 lorax: D'oh. Of course. Or a clean browser. :)

>Yes, this is what my readers are reporting.
Re: the D option. I didn’t realize the options were not all the same. Should I set it up on Option A?

I still don't understand what is "corrupted" about this. I haven't used the default styles in years, but they do change periodically. Help?
20AnnieMod
>19 lorax: There is no corruption - it is just a separate style.
If there is a question here it is - why do we still have the Google books as a default column. :)

>18 MWGuild: Yes bit any user can just switch to D if they want to while looking at the library.

AnnieMod (#20):
So I guess it was just a poor choice of words on the OP's part then? I am perfectly aware it's just a (rather odd) style, but the OP seems to view it as a very serious problem.

>22 lorax: Not understanding that there are multiple views or why the author is there twice for some users is how I would put it - as opposed to poor choice of words. :)
If you did not realize that there are different ways (see >18 MWGuild:) to see the catalog and someone reports something that looks weird (Google books references and the author name twice) and you do not seem to be seeing the same, it does sound like something is broken and/or corrupted. Once it became clear it is just good old D style, I think everyone realizes it is not corrupted.

>18 MWGuild: Make sure you have a "default style for visitors" set here: https://www.librarything.com/settings/styles. It won't prevent some visitors from occasionally seeing the site-default style D, but at least if they do there will be a banner at the top of the catalog with a link to use your suggested style.

>18 MWGuild: I second what >24 norabelle414: notes! Let us know if you have any other questions. And yes, perhaps we can tackle the default Styles once we work on the LT2 version of "Your books".
