Hi, Can I persuade Tinycat to include the "other call number system" when it shows results? I want to include shelfmarks in that field, essential to find a physical book, and want that to be there alongside the call number, when I search for the book. Any ideas?

I think you have to choose one call number system.

You can enter what you need in one call number field on LibraryThing, and then make sure you're including that call number field/system from your TinyCat Settings (for Search pages: https://www.librarycat.org/admin/settings/search and Detail pages: https://www.librarycat.org/admin/settings/sections). As >2 MarthaJeanne: notes, you can only show information from one of the call number fields on TinyCat.

>2 MarthaJeanne: Thanks, I can see that I can turn on/off the call number, but that doesn't enable me to get the shelfmark field (aka "other call number system" field) on the results page.
I set the result to link to the original details of the book, but even then the resulting page doesn't include the shelfmark field.
The only way around it seems to have a "comment" field, which can be made to appear by clicking on the resulting book, taking you back to the original details.
But clearly we need to have any or all fields in the results. Then I can have my shelfmark there, straight away.
My head hurts a little, hope yours doesn't too!

>3 kristilabrie: The "other call number system" field doesn't seem to appear on those pages. Honestly I have tried.
Can you create my desired scenario yourself? If you can, then it must be possible!

In your LT account settings you can set which system you want to use. (Books, Other settings). That system will then be used in TinyCat if you include Call number in your settings. You will have 'other call number' OR 'LCC' OR 'Dewey'.

>6 MarthaJeanne: I think you can use a different system/setting on LibraryThing vs. TinyCat for the call numbers. Probably why it's a bit confusing! Sorry, GraemeLyall
>5 GraemeLyall: You can set your call number system on TinyCat (that is, which call number field TinyCat pulls from in your LibraryThing library) from your Circulation Settings here: https://www.librarycat.org/admin/settings/circsettings. Setting your call number system to the "Personal or custom system" will pull from the "Other call number" field. Hope this helps.

>7 kristilabrie: I am grateful to you. I have however found a solution that seems to work for me. I actually like having Dewey in the results (although the books are shelved idiosyncratically and so a shelfmark is essential). So instead of making it an alternative "call number system", I will just put it there in a comment field in the catalogue. And by chance TinyCat allows this field (which is called "local notes") to be given a name of choice, so I have called it shelfmark.
So I get Dewey, and the shelfmark too. Of course I have to click through the results to get the book details, but that's fine.
Such fun. I worked in libraries decades ago, but the itch is still there!

Excellent! Glad you found a solution that works.
I personally love using TinyCat! Glad you get to stretch your librarian legs a bit. :)
