The original Gulliver DLE contains more than 400 marvelous black-and-white illustrations by Grandville. It utilizes a smaller format than the new one, and some readers might be bothered by the relatively small font although it is clear and dark.
The new DLE is illustrated by Arthur Rackham, one of my favorite artists, but contains only 13 illustrations, a small number for him. I see no need to own two Gullivers, so I’m sticking with the original. As far as which has a more attractive cover, I like the baby blue of the new one, but I also like the more traditional look of the original — a toss-up.

>3 Bob__Reader: I really want EP to reprint Divine Comedy 2 vol illustrated by Gustavo Dore.

Both Ovid and Divine Comedy probably sold their limits long ago. There could be different editions though.

The Dore edition has two very big pluses and one minus. The illustrations are believed by many critics to be Dore’s best work, and the translator has supplemented his work with innumerable footnotes explaining Dante’s many obscure references to people and events. However, the translation itself is an older one that is not highly respected by critics.
It is a beautiful set, though a bit uncomfortable to read because of its size. Highly recommended if you can find one. It was limited to just 400 copies.

>7 jroger1: we dont buy books from secondary market, never. I’ll wait for something to come out again by ep or fs. I have Dore 2 Volume illustrated limited edition oversized Bible by EP, which I love very much. My treasure!
