Where are you seeing $10k for any Easton Press Jules Verne book? The most I saw, sold or unsold, was around $2800 for the 3-volume Mysterious Island, which apparently also sold for under $1000 recently.
Anyway, 20,000 Leagues is one of the oldest DLEs EP produced. Odds are good that that one's limitation count has been fully issued. Maybe I'm wrong but the safe bet is that it can't/won't be reprinted (identically). As for any other out-of-stock DLEs that haven't sold their full limitation count yet, the answer is the same as always: nobody knows.

>2 treereader: I saw it too, but it has been removed from eBay. A sale of $6,999 for 20k leagues EP DLE; with relist of $10k. This guy in Texas sells EP DLEs at absurd prices. Another fraudulent seller like Mr. First Edition - First printing.

That explains it. Are you referring to the infamous engineer69 seller out of Texas? Regardless, I wouldn’t want to classify a listing or sale that was removed by eBay as a legitimate guidepost for current market prices.
>4 Bob_Reader:
Your best bet is to pick up the new ones as the come out, when they come out. In the meantime, set up alerts for any older titles and just be ready to pounce on them as soon as they appear. They will always reappear, just as sure as we are all mortal.

I can’t speak for all the sites you or even I might shop at, so maybe someone else can chime in and help, but the one I use most frequently is eBay. There, you would just query and filter as you normally would, and depending on how you’re accessing eBay there will be a button or link, usually at the top but not always, that says “Save this Search”. It usually has a little heart icon next to it, too. Click the link or the heart icon and it’ll save the query and automatically send you an email alert any time the search generates new hits. I believe the alert can be further tweaked, such as email frequency or phone notifications if using the eBay app.

>5 treereader: yes otherwise known as Finebooks100. I searched on Easton Press Verne and he did sell a sealed copy for $6900 (which explains why my search on Jules Verne came up empty). He is now listing another copy at $10,000.

That sounds more like a lucky coincidence. One month is not enough time to initiate a new book design, print it, and announce it, let alone release it.

Can someone remind me - does the 20,000 Leagues DLE use one of the earlier abridged translations? Is it a good version to read for completeness of story?

I posted this message a few years ago:
“I’ve stayed away from EP's Jules Verne reproductions since my experience with the 20,000 Leagues DLE, the worst DLE in my collection. I returned the first copy, but the second was just as bad - almost unreadable in places because of faded text and broken letters. I later learned that this particular translation, the first English, was full of errors and omitted more than one-fourth of Verne's text, so I read the Folio Society edition instead.”
Subsequent to that post, I learned that almost all of the early English translations of Verne were similarly mutilated, and these are the ones reproduced by EP. I recall reading one authority who said that of all the great writers Verne was the one most poorly served by English translators. Some of EP’s offerings might be worthwhile for the illustrations, but I have chosen to read newer, unabridged translations.

Keep in mind that the listings on eBay and abe.com are asking prices and not actual sales prices. Some of them stay listed for years, as some sellers hope to find one of those fools who are born every minute.
Nevertheless, “Hound” is one of my favorite DLEs, so I recommend it if you have the patience to wait for a price you are willing to afford.

>20 jroger1: true. But someone earlier bought a copy for $6,910 from this seller. Given his success he listed another copy at $10.2k. Resellers must buy multiple copies of DLEs when they come out.

Despite all the recommendations we see here on LT about not treating books as investments or money-making opportunities, it does seem very much possible to do so. Simply buying DLEs, LEs, sets, and author-signed copies and waiting for either the former three to sell out or the latter one's author to pass away seems like a fairly reliable way to make a decent profit - at the cost of having to initially purchase and then safely house these items while you're waiting to resell them. Personally, as a reader and as someone with other interests besides books, it's hard to really dive into such a venture. Besides, I think I'd be ostracized by this group if I ever tried!
$6,910...wow! for a less-than-desirable translation, no less! I'd love to know the thought process going through that person's mind. Maybe it's just an A.I. bot that got fixated on green-colored bindings?

Wouldn’t it be great if we could predict which DLEs and LEs would inflate more than the cost of storing and selling them and if we could guess when an author would die? And also predict which publishers will survive? Notice that most Franklins, LECs, and HPs can be had for a song today because there is no longer anyone promoting them.

Indeed!
One thing I've been curious about, and it doesn't just apply to EP, is how great an influence do these outrageously priced books have on the longevity of a publisher? In other words, using the example just above, there is a brand value impact merely from the existence of a $10k+ book being listed (listed seriously, not as a joke), as well as another book apparently having been sold for $6,910. These examples likely weigh positive on EP's brand power and enable it in various ways to stay in business (e.g., willingness of artists to take commissions, ability to secure credit, etc.), remain relevant, and remain desirable to book readers and collectors. If FL lasted a little longer or started a little later and had access to the larger, matured online marketplaces of even just 10 years ago, they too would likely have seen more instances of outrageously priced books, which in turn, could have improved their brand power. Would they still be alive today had they just stuck in the game a little longer, and had been able to use eBay, Abe, Amazon, etc. as a cushion to bounce back?

Perhaps so, but I recently looked over a list of signed editions, many of them first editions, published by FL, and most of them are forgotten today. They are being offered for $20-30. I have to believe the same thing will happen to EP’s several signed series, and perhaps sooner rather than later. I don’t recognize many of their authors or titles even now.
The death of an author sometimes causes a pulse of interest, but only if it was unexpected. The death of someone in their 80s or 90s (e.g., Michener, Adler, Gerald Ford, even Roth or Updike, barely causes a ripple in the marketplace or at best a brief one.
Anyway, FL had other problems too, including some sleazy marketing practices that I personally experienced near the end of their run.

>26 Bob_Reader: I read it and found it to be really enjoyable. Meaning EP dle has good translation. 80 days ep dle also has hand made marble end pages. I like it very much. Part of my Jules Verne ep dle collection. https://postimg.cc/LJSnCvxK

Good point: the enjoyability of these books is a personal thing, so it depends on what’s more important/appealing to you. If Verne’s original intent and story is your primary interest, seeking a good translation will be key (I think the recently sold out Folio Society edition uses a newer translation and contains the complete story). If presentation, materials, or collectability are more important, these upgraded facsimiles are an excellent choice. And you may find yourself a little in both camps, too.

>28 treereader: I did like ep 80 days translation and it is an unabridged version. If I did not like translation I would have returned this book. I need to enjoy reading it plus presentation.
Started reading ep dle from the earth to the moon and also enjoying translation very much

Does anyone know if the Easton Press or Folio Society editions of Journey to the Centre of the Earth had good translations?
And is a further print tun of the EP edition likely? I know one can't know for sure, but in some cases an educated guess seems to be possible.
