Book Cradle Kickstarter - Displaying your favorite fine press books

I received and email from Natasha Herman at Red Bone Bindery this morning with the information on this project:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/natasha-herman/stilt-book-cradles?ref=disco...

These look well thought out and functional. I would love to have one for photographing books for my blog if nothing else, as I'm always having to rig up ways to get the photos I want and never satisfied. I would probably not use it much to display a book open but who knows? What do you all think?

;) Full Disclosure: Unfortunately I have no affiliation with this project. I wish Ms. Herman was family or a Best Bookish Friend with Benefits(BBFWB) but alas I will have to do my due diligence and consider pledging with everyone else.

P.S. I know we've discussed book cradles and stands and such somewhere in Talk but I searched and couldn't find it...

This is cool, thank you for sharing, I think I'll pledge for it, I have a few books in my collection now that it would be nice to display.

That's very elegant!

I have one. They are very cleverly designed, well made, and endlessly useful. Highly recommended. And Natasha's a fantastic binder too.

(Not an interested party, just a fan.)

I went for the quarto size with all the bells and whistles (the set plus the optional foot) as I thought that would give me the most flexibility in taking photos for my blog. Better a small book on a big cradle than trying to balance a big book on a little one, methinks...

You should see the combinations of juggle bean bags, pieces of type, and other weird things I use to get my photos. Excited to have something designed specifically for book display.

FYI...I was curious what shipping might be for the U.S.A., since I couldn't find it stated anywhere but it does pop up when you select a pledge as an add-on charge to the total. So you can see what it will be before you confirm your pledge. 25 Euros to the U.S.A.

Thanks for the posting. For some reason I felt that the angle of the book cradle was a little steep and the books could be opened slightly more wider?. Is this a typical angle for book cradles as I can see 4 options on the campaign page with 120 degrees being the widest option?

That would be a good question to post in the Kickstarter for them to answer. I suppose that they want the cradles to work with the majority of books out there and, as a conservator and restorer, they felt those angles were "safe." I noticed in the picture from the museum that the books were opened at different angles, probably because of tighter bindings or maybe compromised and delicate condition.

I'm very excited to see how the cradle will facilitate my book photography!

60% over the goal with a couple weeks to spare. Looks like this one will be a go. Looking forward to the cradle if not the hit to my credit card!

7 days to go and close to doubling the goal...looks like they will be building at least 60 of them at this point.

Just over 12 hours to go. I've since added some stands to my pledge for the full Folio set.
