I’ve been doing some research recently on Terry Pratchett book offerings. I do have a copy of FS Mort and Small Gods. Finished Mort … I really loved it. Almost finished with Small Gods … and it has to be one of my favorite books in this genre (though to be said … I don’t normally read this type of book).
My question is .. can anyone lead me in a good direction when it comes to acquiring more Pratchett titles in this Discworld series.
Of course … like most on these forums … I’m looking for nicer/unique versions. They don’t have to be crazy limited editions. But these standard edition FS versions are absolutely beautiful … (love the cover treatment). And I wanna stay away from generic 'airport' paperbacks.
It’s so unfortunate that FS wasn’t able to continue the series.
I am open to comic graphic novels … or random publisher suggestions.
Thank you in advance for any help with this.

>2 duonkha: I really want to buy the deluxe version, but found the deluxe Good Omens so big that it was hard to read comfortably. The non deluxe versions are all glued bindings ( there’s an old thread about this).

The nicest Discworld books available, aside from the FS ones, are probably the Unseen Library Editions - but unfortunately they ran out of money part way through, so they only go up to Maskerade. They're fairly nice, with faux leather bindings, and some custom art from Josh Kidby inset on the cover. They're also sewn, with decent paper, ribbons, and endpapers with a map of the discworld. No illustrations inside though.
You're kind of in luck if you're favourite series is the Witches though, like me - there are UL editions of all of them except for Carpe Jugulum and the Tiffany Aching books - although getting hold of Lords & Ladies is proving extremely difficult! I guess that one is a lot of people's favourite.
----------
After the UL Editions, there's the Unseen University Collection, which are standard UK hardbacks, i.e. glued binding - not sure if the paper is acid free either. They've done the entire discworld series in this format, finishing with the Tiffany Aching books this year, and including Good Omens.
The cover art is by Joe McLaren, which is okay, but doesn't scream Discworld to me.
----------
Personally I dream of a quality set with interior illustrations by Paul Kidby, and endpapers with Josh Kirby's cover art. But I can only dream :(

I'd love editions illustrated by Kidby, too, especially at a reasonable size. Unfortunately, the Joe McLaren covers don't work for me at all, and there are no interior illustrations either. That's why I've resisted those editions so far.

Yes, the sheer size was a problem for me, too. So I caved and bought the smaller editions with fewer illustrations on top of the other ones. Oh, well...

>5 SF-72: do the small editions of Guards have good quality materials (good paper, sewn binding)?

>1 thisGuy33: by the way, in case you weren't aware there were two FS editions of Mort. A regular edition and a signed limited edition. I believe the limited editions is the fastest selling LE in Folio Society history (someone correct me if I'm mistaken).
Back in 1995 there was a video game released by British developer Psygnosis - "Discworld" which was an adventure game on the PC based upon the books. In 1996 they released Discworld II: Missing Presumed...!? (released as Discworld II: Mortality Bytes! in North America) where you take the role of Rincewind. These games were big hits in Europe (sadly, not so big in the USA but at least we got them)! Anyway, Psygnosis had an online contest (way back in 1996!) and the winners received an actual hand-painted cel of Death! It's not clear how many were actually gifted (very few were produced, and all included a special signed and numbered certificate of authenticity), but at any rate, I do have one of them :)

>8 duonkha: Bah, thanks for the info! I do want the new illustrated Guards, but not crazy about the size. Would wait if I thought there was any chance of an alternative! I will say, though, that the corresponding Good Omens is quite beautiful!

>6 RRCBS:
I've got the signed, slipcased version of this and Good Omens. They aren't Folio Society material, as in glued binding and average paper, but to me overall better than 'regular' hardbacks. The colour illustrations are on nice paper, not just printed on the same paper as the text, and there are a lot of black and white illustrations integrated into the novel, too. I'm happy with these books, and they're comfortable to read, in contrast to the large special edition. I just wish all the illustrations were in there since the large books are just too uncomfortable for me to read. But again: One can't expect the level of Folio Society from these kinds of publishers, which is also reflected in the lower price. It's still above their regular books, though.

>10 SF-72: I guess the large one is more an art book? Very disappointing, I so want to get it but just read my Good Omens recently and found it cumbersome read.

>11 RRCBS:
This edition of Good Omens (Guards! Guards! hasn't been published in that size yet) is the novel with lots of illustrations, many covering a full (large) page, and in the more expensive edition with extras that are basically playful art. I expect Guards! Guards! to be the same. I would have enjoyed this as such if I could read my books sitting down, but for health reasons that's not an option anymore. I need to be able to lie on my side and hold a book comfortably. But the quality of these large editions is better and they are really beautifully made, so I don't regret the purchase despite that. But they're really not particularly suitable for a comfortable read, health issues or not. The smaller editions lack larger parts of the artwork and don't have the same quality overall, but you can read them like any regular book. It would be nice if they'd manage to arrive at something that combined comfort, quality, and all of the illustrations.

You're very welcome. I hope you'll enjoy it. I'm certainly looking forward to it despite the size issue.

>4 Xandian97: Yes, after the only two extant Folio editions, the Unseen Library ones are your best bet. I have three (Mort, Wyrd Sisters and Guards! Guards!) and their quality is very good. Apart from Lords and Ladies, I've also seen that The Colour of Magic is hard to find. Contrary to the Witches fans, Watch fans will only have the first two books. Beloved books such as Night Watch still don't have a good quality edition.
