Fiction about a boy and a train

This boy and his mom were very poor and lived in a hut while his father worked high up in the mountains building the rails for a train that was miles and miles long and the boy meets a girl who wants to steal from the train but they meet other train robbers who are killing people that get in their way and at the end of the book they save the train.
