Man and woman trapped in elevator fall in love and have an affair

I read this book in the 80's. I took it off my mom's book shelf so I'm assuming it might be from the 1970's. It was a thick paperback. I think it had a rose or flower on the cover. I don't remember much more than something about being stuck in a elevator, and affair, and lots of sex scenes in the book.

Book starts with info on grandmother's life. She meets her sons (she did not raise them) and gives each half of a jeweled perfume bottle. They are supposed to arrive together each with their half to claim their inheritance. WWII breaks out and the brothers are separated. One brother has the other half forged so he can claim the inheritance, changes his name, and starts a jewelry company. The other brother moves to America. Main story is about the poor brother's daughter. She's a jewelry designer that gets a job with the company founded by her (unknown) uncle.

I thought I could offer a suggestion, but it turns out I've completely forgotten the name of the book I have read where two characters get stuck in a lift/elevator. I don't think it's the right one though, because I don't think there are lots of sex scenes.

So I remembered the name of the book that I read, but it turns out that they weren't stuck in an elevator, they were trapped in a building after a terrorist attack. It was Strangers by Rosie Thomas
