Due to some changes in the LT policy, this group was without an Administrator, and the powers that be wanted the position filled by an active member.
Crypto-Willobie and I volunteered to be co-admins of the group. Hopefully, this won't entail much more than sitting in our office with a bottle of beer (or a glass of milk if you prefer), reading, and occasionally offering comment or guidance. Perhaps checking on the orchids now and then.
Anyway, we wish to welcome any and all fans of Nero Wolfe/Archie Goodwin/Rex Stout. You are welcome here so long as you don't have hysterics. ;)
As we reread the books in the series, we intend to start a thread dedicated to each book. Anyone may join in and comment if they decide to read the book at any time. The more, the merrier. If you begin reading a book in the series which doesn't have a dedicated thread, please feel free to start one.

Wonderful! I will endeavor not to give you any reasons to regret your decision to volunteer. :-)

>2 jhicks62: Thank you for your confidence!
>3 rosalita: I appreciate that. I hate kerfuffles. lol Would much rather be reading a book than arguing about them.

Thank you for volunteering your services! I will be reading "Cordially Invited to Meet Death" later this month and will provide some feedback then.

>5 Javman83: Looking forward to it! I have to finish a book I'm not thrilled with, but want to finish for other reasons, then I plan to read another Stout book from the 1930s.
7Crypto-Willobie
Thanks Mrs Lee! I'll be back to help soon...

>6 MrsLee: Agree with this. The Wolfe books are always my in-between books, too. To know you have something you're going to like is a pleasure to look forward to! We can always head back to W. 35th St.

MrsLee, I was just reading some ancient history in this group. It looks like your first post in this group was 11/19/2006. I think that more than qualifies you to be administrator. Long may you reign!

>9 jhicks62: Lol, Thanks! Still a little weird to just take over like that.
I wonder why I was posting in LT on my 23rd Anniversary? Oh well, guess one can't be romantic all day!

A hearty welcome to Meredy, who joined us yesterday! I know her from The Green Dragon, and we had a delightful lunch together a couple of years ago. Looking forward to your comments and insights, Meredy. :)

>13 Crypto-Willobie: Most satisfactory!

>12 MrsLee: Thank you, Lee. I remember that lunch warmly and with pleasure. We didn't just meet over a meal--we went to a bookstore. Of course.
I interrupted my chronological reread of all the Wolfe books a little while back because I was going too fast and didn't want to run out yet. The oldest ones didn't wear quite as well as I'd hoped, mainly because changing social norms had left some of Archie's language behind. The best traits of the books, namely, the enduring solidity of the characters and their relationships, firmly anchored in the place (the old brownstone and its surrounds), continued to supply some of the best comfort reads around.

Oh dear, this is a quiet group. Dead quiet. We need a detective like Archie to stir things up. I apologize for lack of imagination and posting initiative. We have been dealing with several deaths in the family the last couple of months, and I haven't been reading or posting online much.
I do hope others will feel free to post and comment here when they have something to say about the Wolfe series or related topics.

>23 MrsLee: Sorry to hear your sad news.
25MrsLee
>24 etrainer: Thank you. My husband and I are now the "oldest" generation in our family. It's an odd feeling. A lonely feeling.
26etrainer
>25 MrsLee: I'm not quite there yet, but you've made me start thinking about who all is left older than I am . . .
27MrsLee
Welcome uttermad, thank you for joining our quiet group. Feel free to chime in on any of the old threads, or start a new one if you desire.
28MrsLee
Happy New Year one and all! I lift a beer at the perfect temperature, with just enough foam to touch your lips, to you in a toast.

A very quiet group, but I need to announce my resignation as co-admin of this group. Some health issues have developed for me.
30rosalita
>29 MrsLee: I'm very sorry to hear that MrsLee. You've been a stalwart here and sparked many good conversations about Nero and Archie. I hope your health issues will allow you to visit occasionally and let us know how you're doing.

As a very, very quiet, but longstanding, member of the group, may I say how sorry I am to hear that, offer thanks for your admin services and many contributions, and wish you very well in addressing your health issues.
