Longer standing members of the group will probably be aware that this group was created, many years ago, by a person who rapidly ceased to contribute much, and has not been heard of at all in recent years, although determined efforts have been made to reach him. The group has in effect been orphaned, and some things that only the group administrator (by default the creator) can do have had to go undone.
The FSD is not the only group in this position, and a process has started to rectify the situation. You can read about it on the general Talk pages here:
https://www.librarything.com/topic/328882#n7393360
If you go the group front page of our group you will see it now bears the message that the group is looking for an admin; it is possible to have more than one admin. You may nominate yourself (but do look and see what is involved) or you may nominate others. I think the job calls for experience of the group's years of existence, and knowledge of the FS's history and books, together creating the required degree of authority.
I have nominated Warwick Carter (wcarter), well known for his tireless work on the wiki, and for his outstanding Archive series; and Glenn Robison (folio_books) who supports the wiki with scans, and has interesting contacts with the FS. Both have outstanding collections, and long years of sharing their knowledge very freely with the group. As Warwick is in Australia, and Glenn in the UK, they have the neat advantage as a pair of being available more or less round the clock - emergencies are happily rare, however.
Please choose carefully - good admin can help the group be even better.

I support your nominations. How the selection process will work?
Edit: Never mind. I just read the thread you linked.

I support the nominations too. Makes perfect sense. Appreciate that Warwick and Glenn would take this on (and always appreciate their regular work on the site)!

Just in case it isn't perfectly clear, you make your nominations through the box on the group front page - this thread is just for opinion and discussions.

Has anyone confirmed with Warwick and Glenn? Happy to join the crowd in endorsing their nominations but want to make sure they are both willing.

I'm honoured to accept the nomination. I've worked with Warwick on a few projects and would be happy to do so on this one. Thanks to >1 affle: for his warm words.

I would support that. I’m technically new to the group but have been a lurker for quite some time and I’ve noticed how much work you both put into this group.

I wholeheartedly agree with all the sentiments mentioned already and thank all members for making this a welcoming beacon of escape from what has been a trying year for all Im sure.
30-Ophidian-
As a longtime lurker, I heartily support the nomination of these two.

I have added my voice to the nominations of wcarter and folio_books. Thank you both for being willing to take on official admin duties for the group.

I've voted for wcarter and folio_books and wish to express my heartfelt thanks for their contributions past, present and future.

I have been a member of this group for over 13 years I believe, and have seen many faddicts come and go, been saddened by the passing of good members, and have witnessed and sometimes partaken in civil wars, skirmishes and fence mending over contentious issues.
Both nominations stand out as tried and tested aldermen for this community and I unreservedly support their nomination.
I do however acknowledge the creator and initiator of the Group, and would like to ensure that if ever Kieran surfaces and should like to apply himself again in an Admin capacity, it ought to be respected.

For once we agree! FSD will be in safe hands with Warwick & Glenn at the helm. I also agree that Kieren Valente's foundation of this group is important to acknowledge. Sadly, his Library page has not been updated since 2016.

Like so many others, I have added my vote for Warwick and Glenn. Should we make it unanimous?

Listen, strange boxes lying on home pages distributing solicitation is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical clicking ceremony.

I have also submitted my votes for wcarter and folio_books. I am not consistently active on here but I had always assumed that they WERE the administrators!

This has been a lovely thread to read through! I have invited Warwick Carter (wcarter) and Glenn Robison (folio_books) to be the admins of this group. You two should see the invitations in your notifications (next to your name in the upper right). Click to accept the invitation. Please let me know if you have any issues.

Hello Meg. Thank you for the news. I think Warwick's still in bed. I'm almost certainly going to have a ton of questions (most starting with what? and how? ). Do I ask you? Is there a guidebook? There's two to be going on with.
Thanks to all on FSD who gave me their support. I'm touched and mystified.

>46 folio_books: For now, this means you can pin topics to the top of the list, edit the description, and, soon, add a links section. You will also see, via the Groups You Admin tab, an update when new members join. You are free to send them a welcome if that feels right to you. We may think about other duties as time goes on. Please let me know if you have ideas!

I've been extremely busy lately and managed to visit LT only once a couple of days ago for a few minutes. Had no time to post anything, managed to read only one thread - this one, but I'm glad I was able to add to the unanimous vote for Warwick and Glenn. FSD's orphan days are finally over!

I heard that new admins are expected to send all of their group members doughnuts...
53wcarter
Well I have woken up in Australia, and I thank (I think!) the FSD community for the trust they have given Glenn and myself.
I don’t know about donuts, but anyone who visits me will certainly be offered a Vegemite sandwich!

I also think that Glenn and Warwick are excellent choices for admins.
It also seems that we soon hit a new milestone as this group is only 9 Messages away from 1.500.000 messages.

>53 wcarter: When I visited Australia in 1988, I bought a very tiny pot of Vegemite. I still have it, still unopened. I’ve heard that taste improves over decades. Is that true? In that case, I would spread it all on a large slice of bread and eat it to your health tomorrow for breakfast!

Vegemite that old could be a bit risky, but it does last a long time. I would suggest a tiny bit on a piece of toast to start with, as it is a very strongly flavoured, heavily salted yeast extract (like Marmite in the UK, but stronger).
I once exchanged national dishes with a Swede when travelling. He gave me some toxic tasting preserved fish and I gave him Vegemite. I managed the fish, he could not tolerate the Vegemite.
I regularly have a Vegemite sandwich for lunch, I guess its what you are used to.

That's the question I've been asking since first nominated. No sign of it yet.
