Books like The Vanishing Half and There There

I’m looking for recommendations similar to The Vanishing Half and/or There There.

What was it that you liked about either or both books? I've read them both, and I liked them both, but what you liked about them was maybe not exactly what I liked about them.

The book I read most recently that reminds me of There There is Come home, Indio by Jim Terry. It's a memoir and a graphic novel, about only one Native American guy who grows up in the Chicago suburbs, spending some summers with his mom's extended family in Wisconsin. Does that sound like it might interest you?

Maybe An American Marriage

Perhaps also try Brit Bennett's first book, The Mothers?

I loved The Vanishing Half. Another book I read around the same time, which has similar themes but is further into magical realism, is Empire of Wild.

Louise Erdrich's novels are as close as I can come to There There (which I loved).

A Good Neighborhood by Therese Anne Fowler. Really good.
