YA Girl pretending to be a boy to go to "dragon school"

My daughter and I listened to this on audiobook, a couple of years ago. I think it was the first book in a series. The girl goes by Alex or some other innocuous name while she is at dragon slaying school. Girl's aren't permitted to learn how to slay dragons. She is supposed to be off at some fancy finishing school for girl's but instead goes to dragon school. She has a male best friend who is in on it, and we can't remember who goes to the girl's school in her stead.

I want to say it's a newish book, because the next books in the series weren't available as audiobooks yet.
