70s-80s romance set in roman-like times

I must admit that I remember very little about the plot and so I must go with what I remember the most, and that is the cover picture.
It was a romance novel in paperback.
I remember it from my much younger days, and going by that, I would say that the book was from the 70s to early 80s.
I THINK the name of the book was either "Prisoner of the Sun" or "Prisoner of the Sun Emperor" or something similar.
The cover picture had a woman and a man standing behind her and holding her. They both had attire from Roman times; with the woman somewhat scantily dressed and the man had a Roman soldier's uniform. The background had a partially visible Roman Galley as well as a bring sun. The whole cover was very golden and bright in color.
I understand this is indeed a formidable challenge but my old memory is not what it used to be.
