Just finished spending some time in a rare post-apocalyptic dystopia that was unquestionably FANTASY (not sci-fi) in Towers Fall. Quite a good conclusion to a YA trilogy.

Going next to pseudo-French-Revolution with Illusion... I have VERY fond memories of this book, and Volsky is a favorite writer who I frequently grieve at not having more work from her, so I'm looking forward to a reread. One of my reading goals the last few years has been to do more rereads of old favorites that I haven't read in a long time (20+ years in this case) and refresh my opinions on them. So far, every old favorite I've read has held up really well, so my tastes in fantasy have apparently not shifted dramatically over time. :)

I'm in Ile-Rien and Cineth travelling on The ships of air. And I'm also in Hell visiting The library of the unwritten.

I sometimes have a problem with short stories as I find reading one after another pretty jarring. With this anthology, I'm reading a story a day, and it's working really well. Finished Malazan Book of the Fallen Part 8 - Toll the Hounds. I have read that Steven Erikson's father died either before or while he wrote this book and it affected his writing style. I don't know if that is true, but this was really rough - even by dark, gritty Malazan standards. The story is an 800 page beat-down. Still well-written and coherent, but no room to breathe. I'm on to Dust of Dreams. I didn't realize that Dust of Dreams is actually the "last" book - it is Part 1 of a two-part finale as stated in the forward. While that seems odd to state (isn't Gardens of the Moon "Part 1 of a 10 -part "finale?") Erikson warns the reader that Dust of Dreams doesn't resolve any plot threads like the other books (which all have a beginning, middle and end with most key plot points resolved). You just plow right into The Crippled God.

I’m in Red Deer, Texas making a Clean Sweep at the Gertrude Hunt Inn. And also in Haggard (Ireland?) with Skulduggery Pleasant - whose skull isn’t even his own.

Still hanging around Chicago with Harry Dresden, currently up to Skin Game. Also, re-reading A Flight of Magpies which takes place in an urban fantasy version of Victorian England.

Just left the world of the Shaduwhunters, and going to Panem the ballad of songbirds and snakes.

It's back to the world of the Others for Marked in Flesh.

I love KJ Charles's historical fantasies only slightly less than her regular historicals, but they're all great.

Today I'm going to start The Vanished Queen by Lisbeth Campbell

Just finished poppy war Its a book group read and given the historical context (Second Sino Japanese war in WWII) I wasn't sure I wanted to visit that topic. The depiction of the Japanese horrific acts are descritbed here, and so I did some page skipping. But this speculative fiction/fantasy is mind blowing. Its the best Fantasy I have read in a very long time, and will probably be on my list of top books ever read.

Not sure what I want to get into next but I heard this has a sequel that I should check out

I’ve returned to Esperance in Aeiolia to see what Esme’s Gift is. It’s a world I really enjoy visiting. I got this e-book as an LT ER giveaway and the publisher also sent me the first book, Esme’s Wish, for free. It’s listed as a trilogy so I’m looking forward to the third book, whenever it’s released.

I reluctantly have returned from The Starless Sea. I could have spent a very long time there...

Thats on my shelf; I tried it a few times but kept getting distracted. Motivate me - what did you love about it? How does it compare to Night Circus ? (besides being longer)

>22 cindydavid4: Hey Cindy! I totally love Morgenstern's writing style; both books are so graceful and detailed and the characters are interesting. This one is about the nature of stories, and I thought it was very inventive and clever. It is similar to Night Circus in the way that the character's motives are ambiguous at first and just when you think that you know whats going on, something new is revealed. Certain scenes have stayed in my mind and I wish there would be a sequel.

I'm in space, Sector General for the group read.

Just left the half destroyed Los Angeles of Eric Carter in Ghost Money. This will never work as a stand-alone but as part of the series, it fits perfectly. :)

Back in London for now in de vervloekte orakelsteen van Peter Dewillis I don't know if this serie of books is translated.

Added Sword of Destiny by Andrzej Sapkowski to my rotation.

I finished Hospital Station for the group read and enjoyed the humour. I'll come back to this universe later, since I have the omnibus Beginning Operations but I have moved on to Camelot with a changeling who is executing The Guinevere Deception.

I finished Iron Cast -- an enjoyable enough YA with a unique setting, although it did remind me why I don't read YA that often. Now diving into Song of the Crimson Flower for book club.

I am returning to Abeth for The Girl and the Stars.

And it's back to alternate Victorian London for Heartless.

I am sailing The starless sea.

I revisited The Palace of Stone in Asland, the capital of Danland.

Now I'm leaving the Winterlands in the company of the Dragonsbane and Jenny Waynest, heading for Bel.

I'm carousing around Osten Ard with Simon trying to figure out what is going on with The Dragonbone Chair. I plan to read the other two parts to this trilogy fairly soon, but next up is going to be The Stolen Throne. I just started a new playthrough of Dragon Age: Origins and want to read the books at the same time so I can get the full story.
