The books I entered yesterday are not searchable in my catalogue.

Does not include Chasing perfect, which I just added, but would normally expect to see right away.
Book I entered on Thursday works.

Books I just added are immediately found in search, maybe this hiccup has passed?

Chasing perfect works for me now. I'll leave this open for now so that staff see it, but it does seem to be back to normal.
I've also checked books from others that weren't working before, and they are also good.

Yes, if this failed for you, try again. Chris came on at 6am to restart a search machine, which was probably the problem.

I had the same problem and would like to share a solution that worked for me, as it seems to be a recurring issue (https://www.librarything.com/topic/301401 , https://www.librarything.com/topic/317223 , https://www.librarything.com/topic/255640)
Summary:
Issue: "Search your library" did not find all books in my library/catalog; some titles would never be found, even when entering the exact title.
Solution: I used "Power Edit" to assign a tag to all titles. Now all books can be found through "Search your library".
Long story:
I joined LT approximately 30 hours ago and added 300 books to my catalog. When I used "Search my library", for some reason I could only find books that were added before, or after, a certain time threshold. For example, the books I added during my first 5 hours on LT would be found, and the ones added during the last 22 hours as well, but the ones added during the 3 hours in between would not be found.
While I was looking for a way to force a re-indexing of my catalog, I found that changing a property of an "unfindable" title, such as adding a comment, would cause it to become findable.
I then used "Power Edit" to assign a tag to all books in my catalog, and within a few minutes all my books had become findable.

>6 dancarew: It usually takes about 24 hours for the search cache to catch up to the entry. Your power edit just forced the cache to reindex sooner.
8jjwilson61
I thought the 24 hours was for the work to be found in the site search. Indexing of your personal catalog should take a few hours at most.
9timspalding
Site search is a 24h thing. Your catalog should be much faster—a minute, normally, but no more than an hour.
10timspalding
Mine is taking less than 16 seconds.

I'm experiencing intermittent problems as well lasting more than a day after book entries. I'll see if the adding a tag or comment works, since a book I did modify is now showing. Something hasn't been quite right in newer entries being available to search requests for some time.

>11 BookHavenAZ: Searching within your library or searching the site?

>11 BookHavenAZ: Can you give a couple of specific examples that you're currently experiencing? Or let us know when you get a new one? We'll need the titles you added and how long after you tried searching for them in your catalog.

Better today; and so the little elves in the code make themselves known... who knows what goes on with them. My entries today are showing almost immediately on a search. Weird.

>13 kristilabrie: Well, the for instance that sticks in my mind was The Harvest by Robyn Carr, which I had entered March 1 but which didn't show yesterday. Then I tagged it with 'q' and it showed. There were several dozen others but the tag fix seemed to work. I'll double check what I've done this morning. I'm in a constant state of entering and searching so it doesn't take long for me to find out. :)

Your new additions should show up almost immediately when you search your catalogue. They will also show up in site search if the work already existed and it auto combined. Neither case is weird. Weird is when that doesn't happen.
I don't see any copy of The Harvest in your books, just four copies of The Harvest Moon.

Yep, the last book I put in today (about twenty minutes ago) is showing up all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. So, provisionally okay, but I'm in wait-and-see mode since we've done this before. Oh, and it was searching within my (vast) library, not the site. It's an indexing issue apparently. I can find the book if I have other copies and meander through the details, click on "other editions", or simply list "all collections" by most recent entries.
Thanks for following up, I really appreciate it.

Okay, it's back. I entered "Simply Love," ISBN 9780440241973, only minutes ago. It came up as a duplicate. So I clicked on it, checked other editions, and lo and behold! I entered it on 01 March, even tagged it on the third with the q, and the dratted thing still didn't come up on a search. BUT a subsequent title only search of my library (not ISBN) is showing the one I just entered five minutes ago - but still not the one I entered the first. Place head against wall, pound vigorously, repeat as needed.

>18 BookHavenAZ: I wonder if you are not hitting something simply because of the size of your library - there is a reason why "large libraries" is a special bug category - Tim occasionally needs to adjust something to allow the very big libraries to actually work properly (or so it had seemed through the years). And 93K+ books makes yours a large library indeed.
>13 kristilabrie:
Can you ping Tim to look here at this as a "large library" problem and see if something got snagged and can be solved easily?

>18 BookHavenAZ: Okay, thanks! So, I think I know the issue here. We made a server change last week, such that books added between then and a fix we made on March 2 might be experiencing indexing issues. We're in the process of reindexing all libraries, which should fix it for all, but I'm going to go ahead and push your reindex now. You have a very large library, so it'll take a bit, maybe as much as 2-3 hours. Try searching your library in a few hours and let me know how it goes?
