Hello

I am a new user of TC and have uploaded around 200 books as a trial. I would now like to work out if I have to have multiple individual patron accounts or if there is a more general way to track loans. I’m concerned about loading a list of all our synagogue members (GDPR!) when a lot of them may not borrow. Also we will have children who might want to borrow but it is their parents who are on the membership list.

We are aiming to make the library self-service as we are volunteers and only in the building on occasion so people may wish to borrow at other times.

How has anyone else dealt with this to track who has what and for how long without necessarily having individual patron accounts.

Rebecca

Great question! I'm curious of what other TinyCat libraries have to say, but I'll at least offer some input here as TinyCat staff.

I don't actually see a way to be able to track who has what book/s in your system without using some form of individual patron accounts. That said, there are ways to protect your patrons' privacy while still tracking your circulation.

We offer some tips for maintaining your patrons' privacy in our Terms of Use: https://wiki.librarything.com/index.php/TinyCat:_Terms_of_Use. I hope this helps.

Thanks Kristi. I will look at that and see if it gives me a solution idea.

What if you set up a generic patron account and everyone used that?
