Where are you in Fantasyland? February, 2020

Still working on Fire & Blood, Nevernight, and The Last Wish. Still pretty much in a reading slump.

The Blacksmith Queen by G. A. Aiken. It's retarded, but I got it in an airport when I had nothing else to read (yes, really) so now I feel bound to finish it. Don't emulate me.

I am continuing with The Ranger of Marzanna.

>1 seitherin: For me, re-reading stuff from when I was a teenager jumps me out of it. I don't even have to finish it. Last year the new translations of Louis Cha/Jin yong was such a genre change it jumped me out of it. Last month I got sick and discovered that the local digital library service has the Andrea Camilleri crime mysteries - I read a stack as an escape. So I recommend a genre-jump. To un-slump.

>4 cremorn: Usually re-reading something by Agatha Christie does it for me, but that hasn't worked this time around. I've decided to embrace the slump and watch all the shows on Netflix, et. al. that I've been wanting to see. I'm doing "Outlander" and "The Vampire Diaries" (Netflix) and "Tell Me a Story" (CBS All Access) right now. Enjoying the break muchly.

Still in Chicago with my re-read of the Dresden books by Jim Butcher. I am now onto Summer Knight.

Just finished #3 in the Spellslinger series: Charmcaster. These are what I call "potato chip" series fiction -- probably not classic or great, but easily readable with lots of action & a number of vivid characters ("potato chip" because it's easy to go from one to the next -- and tasty but insubstantial)

I'm in Long Island in Creatures of Want and Ruin.

I've moved on to a reread of the Black Jewels trilogy to prepare for the new book coming out next month.

Just finished Midnight Tides today, and immediately downloaded (and read the Prologue of) The Bonehunters.

>10 drmamm: uuhhh wow, I started listening to the audiobook, then I switched to a reread of the book, which I will finish today. Will start Bonehunters again today. Very strange for me, I normally only reread YA. In the final chapters, things like the Shurq Elalle piracy jaunt never got made into further stories. But I think Silchas Ruin and Unidaas and Fear reappear eventually.

I'm staying in the same world but moving a generation later and across the ocean to England in Creatures of Charm and Hunger.

Work is hectic this month, so I retreated from more ambitious reads to escape to Corus in Terrier. It was a fun ride, and now I'm on to Mastiff. I haven't read Tamora Pierce since I was a teenager but she really does character dynamics well.

It's off to the Great Library of Summershall for Sorcery of Thorns.

I was in the eponymous realm as I went through the first two books of the Tahaerin Chronicles by J. Ellen Ross. Ok, not exceptional. Fairly sweet relationship with the woman as the more gifted/powerful one in there for those who like that.

Now nearing the oracle's sanctuary at Afra as I'm cracking open Lynn Flewelling's The Bone Doll's Twin. I think I'll like this one a lot.

Reading wicked for a book group. Hadnt read it since it came out, loved it at the time. Now realized how much of it i managed to miss. Liking it quite a bit (btw Maguire has several other twists on fairy tales that are really fun and not as deep as Wicked Mirror Mirror Confessions of an ugly stepsister and a sequel to wicked A lion among men

In Renaissance Batiara (or Italy) in Guy Gavriel Kay's latest: A Brightness Long Ago. Well up to scratch so far.

Regency England, reading Courtship and Curses by Marissa Doyle. Nice balance between the intrigue and the romance plot, I thought.

I'm currently in Scirland but probably heading for parts abroad soon in Within the Sanctuary of Wings.
