Why do you think Kim spots what Alex is like when others don’t?

She's feeling the lack of emotion and empathy from her. I think Kim is more attuned to this due to her foster home stays plus her own history of hiding her feelings.

I agree with >2 bhabeck:. Kim has also spent a lifetime hiding her emotions and might be able to spot Alex's odd behavior when others only see the surface.

Agree with >2 bhabeck: and >3 Olivermagnus:. Also, she's known to not talk much, even as a child. So I think she's spent a lot of time observing people.

She hides her feelings never allowing them to surface. She doesn't relate emotionally to anyone so she sees in others the same distancing qualities that is herself. She observers rather than interact.

I think Kim is always on the defensive when meeting people, due both to her job and her childhood experiences, as such she will watch and judge. I can't see her ever being bought or fooled by fakery.

Kim has hid her true feelings and emotions and is very attuned to those who do the same such as Alex.
