Should Jenks and the police have picked up on the abuse at their earlier call out to the house?

I didn’t notice anything that would have raised the red flags unless they felt that a follow up with the “interfering teacher” was warranted. The wife supported the husband’s story

I think they should have questioned why the father slammed the door on the teacher's face. An interview with the teacher would have been good too.

Hindsight is a marvellous thing. Unfortunately manpower (or lack thereof) is an issue for the police, they were unlikely to investigate further without more reason - they don't have time to go looking for trouble.

The teacher incident should have raised some red flags but the police officers didn't know at the time of their visit why she had been there or if that she had been there. When the door was slammed in her face and she had the concerns she had, she should have contacted child protective services or who ever they have in the U.K.

I'm not sure how they could have investigated more than they did. Even if they called child services the investigation would have barely started.

I don’t think there was anything obvious for them to work with. The father claimed the teacher was wrong about Daisy’s developmental problems (I think). So I don’t think anyone said anything about abuse to the police.
