Any thoughts on the police beating up the suspect? Should this affect the court outcome?
2EadieB
The police can’t beat up the suspect as everyone is entitled to a fair trail and it would definitely hamper the court case if the police manhandled the suspect before the court hearing.

I can understand why they would want to beat the guy, but they can't unless they want to jeopardize the court case.

I can understand why they would want to beat the guy, but they can't unless they want to jeopardize the court case. I don't think it should affect the court's responsibility but the officers should face some sort of punishment, likely being fired.

It was wrong of the Constable to let his personal feelings get the better of him, but this does not affect the gravity of what the slug had done, and should not allow the case to be thrown out. But, wrong or not, it may do. Fingers crossed, it doesn't.

It was wrong but where children are concerned I can see how it could happen. They should have known that thanks to their actions this man may never see a day in prison. >5 Sergeirocks: Slug...I love it. :)

This is a loophole that should be closed. An offender should not be able to walk away because of it. By all means chastise or even charge the police officer with assault, but treat it separate from the charge against the prisoner.

They should prosecute those involved in beating him up, but this should have no bearing whatsoever on charging him or the court case. Two totally different things. Especially where video evidence of what he did, so can’t even say they beat a confession out of him.
