Hello,

I like the idea of work relations and have some questions/suggestions:

1.:
It isn't possible to find related works. Some days ago I added an encyclopedia, that took a few days.

Well, searching for "Orient" under "Your Books" doesn't list subordinate works.

Expected search results:

· Propyläen Weltgeschichte — Band 11.1: Summa Historica, https://www.librarything.com/work/22787364/book/176294653
└ Der alte Orient — Von Bedeutung und Struktur seiner Geschichte by Siegfried Morenz, https://www.librarything.com/work/22787364
· Briefe aus dem Orient, https://www.librarything.com/work/147689

Or at least:
· (indirect) Der alte Orient — Von Bedeutung und Struktur seiner Geschichte by Siegfried Morenz, https://www.librarything.com/work/22787364
· Briefe aus dem Orient, https://www.librarything.com/work/147689

You may argue "use tags instead", but that's not what I'm looking for when searching for titles.

1.2:
The same problem for Authors: it isn't possible to search for authors in subordinate works. In some cases, like combined works in encyclopedias, it is possible to add the author's name to the "parent" work. But that's all.

Five Minutes ago I was searching for all works I have collected from Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach, https://www.librarything.com/author/ebnereschenbachmarie
I know I have some of them, but they are a part of other works.

That brings me to the last point:

2.
On the authors page, there should be an indicator if I own the work indirectly, as subordinate work:
pink = wishlist
green = collected
whatever = collected as part of another publication

When I'm on von Ebner-Eschenbach's page, I've to click through all works to find out if I have a work that contains the work I'm looking for.

Or is there any way to achieve the goals and I haven't found them yet?

Thank you.

Unfortunately not. There is not a lot of functionality to the "work-to-work relationships".

When I want to keep track of works that are contained in works that I have, I usually add the subordinate works to my catalog as well, in a separate collection.

Thanks for your reply.
That was not exactly what I was looking for.
I understand the concept of your "hack": add them all again, use a hidden unlinked ghost category…

Beeing a programmer by myself I can say it is a big mess to add more entries just to find their related works again: When I'm searching for my child no one would say "just let spawn a new one at the specified cellar: now you know where it is, problem solved" :)

But that's not all. I tried to do what you suggested and it escalated:
Instead I found out, I've to add every subordinate work manually again instead of just using the button "Add to Your Library".

Many of us would like work-to-work relationships to do more. You can add your suggestion or support to another suggestion in the Recommended Site Improvements groups.
