Down here south of the border in the People's Republic of Victoria we have, extraodinarily, a day off to celebrate a football match, and yet another day off to celebrate a horserace! "Bread and Circuses", in this writer's humble opinion (Bah! Humbug!). For those of us who are City-Bound and whom have no interest in such things, and may perhaps be more cerebrally inclined, it represents an ideal opportunity to sally forth beyond the bounds of the Cities which most of us inhabit (contrary to National Folklore). Such was my delight in finding a good second hand bookstore, previously unknown, Goulburn River Books in Alexandra, 130 km north of Melbourne.

Have you ever stumbled across a good Country bookstore? Or, if you are from the Country, what's your favourite City bookstore?

I love Blarney Books and Art, in Port Fairy, Victoria. I live in rural Victoria so this is still an hour from my home but well worth the trip.

I don't know why, but my internal map always insists that Port Fairy is east of Warrnambool, when of course it is to the west. My next reconnaissance of previously unknown bookshops is scheduled to be Aesop's Attic Bookshop in Kyneton.

>3I am hopeless with direction! I know where my reguar haunts are and then it is Google maps telling me where to go for anything else.
Have you been to Kyneton yet? I love the name of the bookshop - sounds like there would lots of treasure to discover there.

There are a couple of good secondhand bookshops in Bendigo - "Book Now" was a particular favourite of mine, and a substantial portion of my collection came from there.
I can't remember the name of the other one that is on High St opposite McDonalds but it had a good range of interesting old books
Cheers

According to my insurance company - Canberra is not a major city, it is a "regional centre" (so I had to wait until an assessor came down from Sydney).
But there is a wealth of good secondhand bookshops here
Canty's in Wollongong St Fyshwick
Beyond Q in Weston Creek
The Asian Bookroom in Jamison
Are just three of the best
Cheers

>8 Macbeth: And Alexander Fax at Southlands, and another one at the Lyneham shops that I can't remember the name of.
