Where are you in Fantasyland? September, 2019

Getting the new month started.

I'm starting the new month in Houston with Sapphire Flames.

I'm in the city of Loisail with The beautiful ones.

I'm in Nigeria in Leopard Knocks in Akata Warrior.

I just finished reading The Savior’s Champion. I’ve been a fan of the author’s youtube series for a couple of years, so I’m happy to report that I enjoyed it.

I'm not in Fantasyland but sort of adjacent to it in The View from the Cheap Seats: Selected Nonfiction.

It's back to the Khaiem for The Price of Spring.

I'm in a sinking galley at the beginning of Le Peuple Turquoise by Ange.

Added The Armored Saint by Myke Cole to my reading rotation.

I'm in Tananen with The Gossamer Mage.

I just finished up a vacation at Venice Beach with The Pisces. I think it counts as fantasy and literary fiction simultaneously, although maybe magical realism fits it better? (If anyone has their personal theories clarifying the dividing line, do please let me know.) It was weird, y'all.

I finished Deadhouse Gates (#2 out of 10 in the main Malazan Book of the Fallen series). It was pretty good...a bit better than Gardens of the Moon. Erikson does a good job at putting you into a scene (especially in a military environment). However, there is still something bugging me about the series. All of the pieces are well-done, but the pieces somehow lose a little something when they are put together. I'm onto Memories of Ice, which seems to have the best reviews, so it will be a good decision point on which to continue the series.

Finished The Armored Saint by Myke Cole. Really enjoyed it. Next up is the second book in the series, The Queen of Crows.

I'm entering the hidden Nightside of London with Noir/supernatural detective John Taylor.

Finished The Queen of Crows by Myke Cole. Really enjoyed this one as well. Annoyed that I have to wait until November for the third book in the series to come out. I do have it on pre-order.

Taking a detour to Atlanta for Gunmetal Magic.

Added The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction November/December 2018 to my reading rotation.

After entering the Grishaverse with Six of Crows, I'm going back to the beginning with Shadow and Bone. So far finding it not as good as SoC, which suggests that Bardugo, reasonably, got better with practice.

Added The Gnome and Mrs. Meyers by Susan Klein to my reading rotation.

I'm in 1930s Chicago and possibly at some point, Faerie in Hallow Point.

Finished The Gnome and Mrs. Meyers. Cute.

Added The Black Tides of Heaven by JY Yang to my reading rotation.

I finished The Black Tides of Heaven by JY Yang. I enjoyed the story very much. Well written.

Next up is The Ballad of Black Tom by Victor LaValle.
