Native SVG Support

At present, LT does not support scalable vector graphics (SVG) images, which are often used for logos. When logos are in this (increasingly common) format, it becomes necessary to convert them to another format like PNG in order to have them recognized and used on LT. A marginal issue, but just one more area where LT shows its age.

I'll second that.

Actually, for the sake of forward-thinking, WebP might be worthwhile to add as well. Still much less common, but I've run into it a few times.

In what context are you wanting to use SVGs? For cover uploads? In talk messages? Profile pics? Just curious.

Author pictures for corporate authors comes to mind (since the OP referred to logos).

Bump. And WebP is getting more common all the time. It's rare I go on uploading session for an author photos of non-human authors or for awards that I don't have to manually convert from one or both formats to get LT to accept the upload.

It's always one of those two, WebP and SVG, that I run into in practice. If I even run into any other missing formats that actually matter (candidates might theoretically include HEIC and AVIF, but I can't report having ever encountered either in this context), I'll be sure to bring it up.

WebP and SVG would be nice to support, I agree. It would take a pretty massive change to our image pipeline so I don't think it's something we're going to to do right away but it's certainly on my mind for after we get LT2 rolled out. It also depends on the support for the formats from our image processing libraries. I know that the newer versions of them have support for webp but, and I know this is going to surprise you(!), LT isn't always running the most current versions of some of our libraries.
HEIC is a problem because very few image libraries have support for it. Heck, Adobe Lightroom just finally gained support for it this past week.

I'm amused :-)

I think a bigger problem for HEIC is that no browser supports it.

Bump? And just to note, been running into more and more WebP on author images.
