Good day,
I have the FL 100 Greatest series (108 titles actually) and was thinking of buying a 60 book set of the Franklin Library Collected Stories of the World's Greatest Writers. Since the books just have the authors names, I wonder if someone could comment on content overlap between the material in the 2 series. Thank you, Ken

You are right to be careful, as FL series frequently overlap. I did not subscribe to either of these series. However, if memory serves me correctly, the Collected Sories consisted of short stories and novellas, whereas the 100 Greatest contained mostly novels plus a few works of nonfiction. While there is undoubtedly a little overlap (Poe and Chekhov, for example, might be represented in both sets), there shouldn’t be so much repetition as to prevent you from purchasing the series.

>1 Ken_Buffie: I think the list is 100 according to this link. I believe you will find an overlap of close to 10 books. One of the reasons I stopped subscribing. But this list is good, and you can always sell redundant stories on eBay. http://www.eastonfranklinbooks.com/franklin-library-series/fl-collected-greatest

Thank you jroger1 and HugoDumas (love that user name). Based on the information you both provided, I purched the Collected Stories of the World's Greatest Writers books. I am fine with some cross over and based on your information I am confident the amount of redundancy will be acceptable. Kind regards, Ken

I own both sets and the Collected Writers is well worth having. Some of the highest quality design and leather that FL produced. Superior IMHO to the the 100 Greatest. I assume you realize that 60 is not a complete set? There are also 100 books in the Greatest Writers series.

Thank you UK_History_Fan. My plan is to add 1 book a month (most likely from eBay) until the collection is complete. Oh, the joy of collecting and completing a set!

Best of luck. It is challenging to collect them piecemeal. I still need a couple of the 100 Greatest of American Literature as well as a handful from the Great Books series which are proving elusive and expensive. Fortunately I bought the Writers set complete in a rare bit of good fortune.
