Finally finished the Wheel of Time series with A Memory of Light. What a terrific ending to a great series! I think Brandon Sanderson did a great job of wrapping up the dozens of loose ends, character arcs, and plotlines. When I finished, I had to take a few days to just let it all soak in and...process...it.

As a bonus, now I can go talk about the books without getting spoiled! I never googled a character's name, nor did I go near any forum thread that even hinted that it was further along in the series than I was at the time.

Been struggling to get through more of The Crippled God, and my "200 pages at a time" plan did not last. Hit a tipping point last night where I've switched to thinking I'll DNF the thing, and just read Tor's chapter recaps to find out how it all ends.

Moving on to a reread of Death of the Necromancer, inspired by discussion of it here and a couple other places last month.

Hi Everyone. I'm in a two-at-once thing atm reading Alastair Reynolds Revenger while I listen to Chasm City - one that I had tried and failed to read in the past. Revenger is really good. It is like Reeve's Larklight books so I guess I mean a bit Victorian-SF. Have to suspend some disbelief to get started but he does great characters. Before that I read Fifth Elephant (great) while listening to Snuff (not great). I feel like the Vimes character morphed into someone I dislike in the intervening years. Didn't make it into Martha Wells outside of murderbot, yet.

at Barbsn & Carnophile from the January thread, I recently had a conversation with a voracious reader who was enthusiastic about Dresden, so I tried to survive book 1 again and failed again. He said its Urban Fantasy and it made me think, maybe it's not Harry ... maybe its me? I can't get into Dresden, or Rivers of London, or October Daye, much as I would like to. I think it's the genre. I'm still going to try Perdido Street Station though...

Finished the book of Alastair Reynolds' Revenger. Listening to Chasm city at the same time, it's not to the same standard for me. I'm in Lin'an, A hero born.

>12 cremorn: Maybe trying some urban fantasy that's not mystery/crime solving based would be the ticket? I have a special soft spot in my heart for War of the Oaks, which definitely doesn't revolve around that. Neverwhere also has a different focus. But if's it not your thing, it's not your thing. I get irritated with series that are about recreating police procedurals but with vampires, but there's more out there! Even Archer's Goon could be described as (sub)urban fantasy.

I, meanwhile, these past few weeks was very busy with work and am still going through Freedom & Necessity, getting distracted by Three Parts Dead.
