With 11 books to read and 16 reviews to go in my best reading month ever, my previous thread is not going keep up.
I know next years group started today, I will start my thread there at the 30th or 31st.

Welcome to my last thread of 2018!

Reading plans in 2018

I have a large collection of mostly awarded childrens & YA books. At the moment I am reading the books I haven't read since joining LT, mostly alphabeticly, to decide which to keep. The ones not to keep are donated to a library in Rotterdam (where we lived until 2005).
I started in 2018 with 697 childrens/YA books, of those 350 are TBR.

End of November update:
- Childrens/YA books TBR: 350 - 214 read in 2018 = 136 + 11 unread books acquired = 147 TBR
- Childrens/YA books on the shelves: 697 + 13 books acquired = 710 - 102 culled = 608 - 13 ready to go = 595

-*-*-

I keep trying to read more of my own books, of the 452 books I have read in 2017 238 (53%) were my own.
This year I try again to read at least 50% books of my own.

I join the TIOLI (Take It Or Leave It) challenges each month.

We haven't visited my mother, as Frank had to work last night and wakes up late. We went straight to my father and had a lovely diner together with an aunt (youngest sister of my father) and uncle.

book 527: De glazen stolp by Sylvia Plath
1001 books, from the library, translated, original title The bell jar, 284 pages
TIOLI Challenge #5: Read a book that features Red, Green, White, Silver or Gold in the Title or as the Main Color of the Cover (shared read)

Esther Greenwood is a very talented and beautiful young woman, but there are not many options to use these talents for a woman in the 1950s. After a luxery stay in New York, she slowly falls into depression. Mental illnes was barely understood, she ends up in a psychatric hospital (where every fear and nightmare of me was present).

Very well written, with some (dark) humor.

from the library, e-book, translated from French, Adamsberg 7, English translation The Ghost Riders of Ordebec, 412 pages
TIOLI Challenge #6: Read a book that you planned to read in 2018, but didn't read yet

Commissaire Adamsberg is visited by a woman from Normandy, her daughter has seen a vision of the "Furious Army" and now the whole village is sure people are going to die. Adamsberg has an other important murder case, where the murder may escape, due to his high rank in society. Eventually Adamsberg does travel to Normandy and soon the first victim is murdered.

As always a clever mystery and very enjoyable read. I love all the odd police officers who work with Adamsberg.

TIOLI Challenge #11: Make it a short read (150 pgs or less)

Short stories about the boy Arno. The stories all start like a great adventure. It turns out to be a usual daily thing, that was turned into something fantastic by the boy's imagination.

Might be better suited as bedtime stories. It gets a bit repetitive when reading them all in one setting.

I won't be starting a new thread until tomorrow.

But for now I wish you Prettig Uiteinde!

I don't think I can read this much again, I read most of my quick reads this month.

I have increased my reading time in the last two months, by ignoreing the household chores for a while. In January I go back to my regular 5 to 6 hours of reading.

>88 thornton37814: Thank you, Lori, happy new year to you!

>90 karenmarie: Thank you, Karen, wishing you all the same.
It has been an exceptional year indeed :-)

My mother doesn't suffer very much from it, as her short term memory is all gone, She doesn't realise what has happened. On the other hand it is very hard on my father.
