What did you think about Maya’s revelations about what happened on the Iraq/Syria border and with Joe? Any thoughts?

No wonder she had nightmares. Seems there was a bit more to Maya that we thought.

In Iraq/Syria, I thought she was just being human and trying to save her fellow soldiers. She saw that they were going to be killed unless she did something. So she went against orders and killed the enemy, even though there was a child with the enemy (at least that's how I understood it). I think the enemy should be ashamed and responsible for bringing a child into that situation.

With Joe, in real-life, she should've gone to proper authorities, maybe a lawyer or private eye, and legally gotten the information to show he killed Claire and the others, if possible. For the story, I don't blame her for killing Joe once he pulled a gun on her and tried to kill her, even though she did set him up. He deserved it though.

Taking a life of a child is enough to give you nightmares.

I think it's sad to see children die, but I did understand what Maya meant when she said she felt no guilt. Her pain was a direct result of hearing her comrades beg for help.

I think she should have found some way to let the police know about Joe and how he murdered her sister. On the other hand, I can see how Maya, the character that we've come to know, would take matters into her own hands. He deserved to die and I'm glad his scumbag relatives didn't get a chance to hire lawyers to have him freed.

I think the war and all the trauma Maya lived through tipped her over the edge. It made her into a killer. I don't blame her at all for taking cold-blooded revenge on her husband - he was from a privileged family and would have walked for Claire's murder.
I don't think I even blame her for what she did in Iraq. Only cowards hide behind innocent civilians...
