New month, new readings. Let's share some good tips.

I have bought 52: The Covers by J. G. Jones, which collects all covers oof this event with their sketches. It is not revolutionary, but Jones is a competent artist, even under pressure.

I've started reading The Sandman Companion by Hy Bender, which has extensive interviews with Neil Gaiman and behind the scenes info, and Sharaz-de by Sergio Toppi, which is a loose adaptation of the The Thousand and One Nights tales. Sharaz-de is a very slow reading because each page is so detaliled that you become lost in it. The introduction by Walter Simonson is very passionate about Toppi's work.

Just finished My Boyfriend is a Bear, which is unusual but fun. Up next is The Amazing Adventures of the Escapist (Vol. 3), which is the actualization of the 'fictional' comics from Michael Chabon's The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay.

Finished the Escapist book, which turned out to be an anthology featuring both graphic stories and all-prose ones. As is often the case when multiple creators are involved, I ended up liking some stories far more than others.

Now on to Kid Sherlock, a mystery graphic novel aimed at upper elementary school-age children.

My reading for the next week or two:

Rice Boy by Evan Dahm
The Legend of Wonder Woman, Vol. 1 by Renae De Liz
Y, the Last Man, Vol. 1 by Brian K. Vaughan
The Essential Dykes to Watch Out for by Alison Bechdel (book club pick, in honor of Pride Month)

I've finished watching the SyFy series Happy! which is based on Grant Morrison's comic Happy!. Against all odds, instead of giving a light tone to a heavy handed story, they have done a deep dive into all possible sordid aspects that it could offer. They even steal at least 2 jokes from Garth Ennis (one from Hellblazer and other from Preacher). The series as a whole is not for the faint of heart and is strongly recommended for those who like the most escathological moments of Preacher and The Boys.

>7 apokoliptian: Sounds interesting

Was reading some various things this weekend and caught up a bit here there:
- Harley Quinn: The Joker's Last Laugh and Harley Quinn: Black, White, and Red All Over wrapped up the new 52 line of this character, so I'm finally ready to move on to the Rebirth titles once I can pick them up from the library. I do, however, have Harley's Little Black Book to finish, which isn't quite part of the continuity but still belongs to the new 52 run.
- Audrey's Magic Nine, the first in a new fantasy series aimed for tweens. After being bandied about the foster care system, a young girl finds a forever home ... and a magical puppet who says there are 8 more like him out there.
- The Baby-Sitters Club: Kristy's Great Idea, the graphic novel versions of these middle-grade reads have been on my TBR pile for a long time, but they are so popular with kids that it's been hard for me to catch volume 1 on the library shelf. At this point, it's been so long since I read the originals that I can't compare the two, but this was a light and quick read that seems appropriate and on point for the target audience.

>7 apokoliptian: I got a kick out of that Happy! adaptation. It's not for the faint of heart, but it was entertaining and funny.

I just finished the graphic adaptation American Gods Volume 1, and really enjoyed it. The story works well in graphic form.

I've finished the first book of I am a Hero which is a Zombie horror manga. The main difference here is that the protagonist of this book is usually one of the first guys to die in other zombie stories: the guy is a total nerd and a sympathetic loser. The first book works hard to show it to us and it has a good cliffhanger. The representation of the zombies is very original.

The total series has 22 books and I will see if I will collect them all.

I am reading Nexus Omnibus 2 in a very slow pace. It is hard to put it in words how good it is. Mike Baron is a good writer, but Steve Rude is a genius. His compositions, expressions and anathomy are outstanding.

I've browsed American Gods and the art seems very good, but I like the book so much that I don't feel impelled to read it in comic form.

>12 apokoliptian: Understandable. I've read the book twice and enjoyed the graphic. I'm even crazier with Neverwhere, which I've read multiple times in book and graphic form, and seen as a play, and the play has come back to Chicago, so I'll be seeing it again. :-)

>13 jnwelch:
hahaha. It is a love affair. I only read Neverwhere in comic form and I am waiting a little to read the book. I was amused with the villains in the comic book that were designed after the Foo Fighter's video for the song Everlong.

Have you watched the Britsh TV series (the original one)?

I've read Blue Monday Vol.1 which is sometimes described as The Archies with pratical jokes and swearing. It is cute and fun, for me mainly due to the 80's music references. My edition has a very passionate introduction by Kieron Gillen.

I finished out June with Y: The Last Man, Vol. 2, Roche Limit, Vol. 1, and Prophet, Vol. 1. I enjoyed the first two, but the latter was not my thing.

>14 apokoliptian:. Ha! Yes, I loved the British Neverwhere series. If I remember right, that came first, and he made it into a book later.
