Back again ....

Normally, my reading is heavily slanted toward Speculative fiction, science fiction and fantasy genre reading, with Historical, Crime & Lit in there as well .....

Read off my shelves (BOMBs) & libraries first, but I say that every year & fail miserably due to my Inner Magpie - look shiny new thing .... but last 2 years have been vast improvement on previous attempts

You won't find me in the challenges, but will pop in & chat when the moment takes me ....

75+ Books probably not as am slow reader & life gets in the way, but you never know miracles do happen, I did hit 50+ last year so my reading is coming back to life ...

Oh yeah if you haven't guessed am based down under (NZ)

Places in the Darkness

"Multiple competing systems are permanently striving for attention ... The brain retrospectively ... constructs a narrative to give the impression that a solitary unified entity was at the helm the whole time. In short, consciousness is a lie your brain tells you to make you think you know what you're doing"

Burb
Hundreds of miles above Earth, the space station Ciudad de Cielo - The City in the Sky - is a beacon of hope for humanity's expansion into the stars. But not everyone aboard shares such noble ideals.

Bootlegging, booze, and prostitution form a lucrative underground economy for rival gangs, which the authorities are happy to turn a blind eye to until a disassembled corpse is found dancing in the micro-gravity.

In charge of the murder investigation is Nikki "Fix" Freeman, who is not thrilled to have Alice Blake, an uptight government goody-two-shoes, riding shotgun. As the bodies pile up, and the partners are forced to question their own memories, Nikki and Alice begin to realize that gang warfare may not be the only cause for the violence.

Brilliant ......

Hmmmm That unnerving moment when someone younger than you has an heat attack - makes you appreciate taking that turn off for a slower pace ....

"It’s called SCAD or spontaneous cardiac arterial dissection. In short the inner lining of the Left anterior descending artery tore and formed a blood clot that blocked my artery." said person is doing fine & will need to find a way to still be themselves but slow down - bit of a mortality wakeup for them/whanau & surrounding friends.
