What authors would you compare Dick Francis to?

I wouldn't really know but I did find this:

I couldn't think of any but I looked at >2 EadieB:'s list and I see Rex Stout and Tony Hillerman. I've read them and they are sort of similar in that they write interesting stories that aren't graphic or thrillers.

I would probably never have read this book if it weren't for all of you also reading it. It was an interesting mystery but not my usual type. I've read Tony Hillerman, Josephine Tey and Rhys Bowen and I guess I would have to say that his writing style is like them in that they don't write the graphic style of mysteries. Some scenes in some of Tony Hillerman's books border on the graphic side.

Some interesting comparisons on both of those sites...

Don't know who I'd liken him to, personally. With his horse-racing background he tends to have an original USP.

He's not like anything I've read.

>2 EadieB: >5 bhabeck: Thanks for these links. Some interesting comparisons but do not buy Dick Francis being similar to Ellis Peters, Josephine Tey or Mark Mills. Possibly agree with >6 Sergeirocks: that his books are quite unique because don’t think I’d even compare them to Other Cozy authors.
